Hey all,

My wife and I just returned from a short vacation to Cancun/Cozumel (Dec, 2006) and were really disappointed in the snorkeling trips we took and did not do SCUBA due to no certification :)

But for other MARSH members planning on going to the Cancun/Cozumel area, and for us in the future, could someone recommend good snorkeling/diving in that area? Our tour guides said most of the damage was from hurricane Wilma and it will be another 2-5 years before things look good again.

I have not been after the hurricane but if you were in Cancun then the sites there are kinda poor anyways. The good sites on off of Cozumel and are a bit deep for snorkel. Some of the better sites that I remember are 50-80 feet. You really need to scuba Cozumel. I think there is a water park that has a shallow reef off it that is suppose to be nice but I always scuba so I have never gown to it. I recommend getting certified and going diving. It will change you life........ I can not get enough diving in.

almost all dives are from a boat so you will be restricted on where the boat will go. If the currents are not too bad there are some great sites on the outer walls. But the currents and weather is usually too rough to do these sites. I do not remember the names of most of the sites and can not find my old log book or I would look them up. Almost all dives will be drift dives as there is almost always a current there. There are a few sites with some nice swim throws.

GO eat a Premos!!!!!!! It is in town off the square. It is the best Italian food you will ever have and the restaurant in on the roof of a building. It is very good food and a neat place to eat. Also check out La Mission another good place in town to eat at.

I am jealous I wish I was going. Have fun.... I know you will

I know is sounds odd but it is the BOMB. The funny thing is the owner used to have a restaurant in Houston and then moved down there. The food is great!!!!!!!!!!!

La Mission is Mexican and seafood and very yummy

Dive Paradise is the largest dive trip operator down there and they are OK. I usually go with what ever dive shop that is located with the hotel as if you are staying on the water the boat will come pick you up at the dock at you hotel and they you go diving. I like the smaller boats as there are less people to have to deal with. I do not like the heard boats :)

I can not think of anything to not do but I usually just

Eat sleep drink and then repeat until I have to go home

I do not think that there is much else to do other than dive and sit a beach and drink

Progresso/cozumel cruise

My daughter and I went 2 yrs ago to cozumel, we went with the corona beach club because it was cheap (30-40). It was okay, they played games but the beach area wasn't too pretty, it was next the a bridge. in cozumel we went to the clear boat/kayaking it included snorkeling too. The was fun but you only snorkeled in about 15 feet, which was fine for me. I am a scaredy cat in the deep water. It was worth the money to take that excursion. the resort that hosted the excursion was okay, not luxurious but okay. H
