A couple years ago this club collected items to stuff Christmas stockings and donated them to a unit in Iraq.

I'd like to do that again this year, but send it to my future son-in-law's unit in Afghanistan.

If you'd like to contribute we're looking for:

Chewing gum
chapstick
baby wipes
hard candy/candy that won't melt
altoids or other mints
cookies
playing cards
magazines
tooth paste
tooth brushes
dental floss
waterless shampoo
lotion (nothing too pretty smelling!)
hacky sacks
combs
disposable razors
beef jerky
Slim Jims (beef sticks)
other items small enough to fit in a standard size Christmas stocking.

Please let me know if you want to assist.

There are 33 guys in Jame's unit.

We have to have this in the mail by the 2nd week of October for it to get there in time.

Lloyd, the magazines can be issues you've read and have lying around. This particular unit has been in Afghanistan since February, chances of them having read anything since then are slim.

Readers Digest, Field and Stream, Popular Mechanics, anything really...these guys will appreciate anything.

And...bring things...I've got stockings already (dollar store already has them out).

I'll be at the Oct. 6th meeting.

Or if it's easier for you...paypal me some cash and I'll shop for you and post here what I purchased.

I'm just trying to lift these guys spirits...not being home for Christmas.

Very good idea. Just a suggestion (Yes I have been deployed as well), you may want to look into the microwavable mac and cheese (best thing since sliced bread), cookies, candy, magazines, phone cards, etc. Majority of the stuff listed above is sent in by a lot of people. Plus the PX's are pretty much everywhere and provide the necessities. Let me know where to donate. Thanks a lot for everyones support for the Armed Forces, it really does help knowing that "we" aren't always looked at as doing the wrong thing. If that makes sense. Thanks again.

PS If anyone ever wants to donate throughout the year, just locate your nearest Family Readiness office on a military installation or center (Ellington, Old Spanish Trail, Ft Sam, Lackland, etc) or the nearest USO.

Yeah...we send those type things on a regular basis. I was looking for things that will actually fit in a Christmas stocking. Some of the new single serve micro meals will fit though.
