I'm on balanced billing...so $314.00 Actual usage was at $295.87. Right now I have a $56.00 credit toward higher bills later in the summer.

As for energy saving tips:

1. Turn off lights when leaving a room.
2. Make sure all doors and windows close tightly.
3. Add extra insulation to attic if possible.
4. Install attic fan(s) to push hot air out of attic.
5. Run oven as little as possible and in coolest part of day.
6. Use insulated drapes/blinds and keep closed during heat of the day.
7. Use ceiling fans to stir air in rooms and help distribute air from AC.

My single biggest energy saving tip (and no, you really don't want to hear this) is to get rid of the tank. Last summer, my electric bills were over $680 per month. This year, they are under $250 per month. The only REALY difference in the house was that I've dismantled the tank......

Congrats on the money savings but I personally prefer to think of the hours I spend looking at my tank and loving it. Life without a reeftank is not a life.

Granted... My solution is not for everyone. But with that $400 per month saved, I can afford to go diving in the FGBNMS every month and see creatures in their natural habitat... No, I'm not preaching that we should all give up our tanks. I'm just stating what has ended up working for me.

Mine was 240, and I'm in a 2000 sq ft single story home kept at 74 degrees. It's relatively new, so I imagine that helps with effeciency. My tank costs ~$45 a month based on energy calculations, and I find it's well worth it.

Ours was around $220 in a 2200SFT house two-story, but we keep our house at 72...

light bill

homes that were built in the last 5 yrs will be more effecient than older homes due to the new energy laws that have gone into effect.Even the houses that have many square save more energy then older homes. As far as tips are conserned, if you a/c is over 10 yrs old consider replacing it.insulation in your attic should @ least cover the rafter floor.attic fans are a cheap way to cool your attic but will need the motor replaced about every 2-3 yrs. Just a few tips from your friendly neighborhood a/c co.my bill was 228.00 and i have a 150 gal with 870 watts mh lights and vho combo and a chiller.with pumps. I keep my house on 76*. :)

Agreed on Weeks. They're local and reliable.

D & D Mechanical is good too, I used them to purchase/install our new AC/Heat pump a few years ago. They're on the far northside though and it sometimes takes a while for them to get here. Although, just a few months after they installed the units for me we had a lightening strike that screwed up my digital thermostat and I had heat on at 1 am in August!!! To make matters worse I couldn't get it to turn off! 8O I called expecting to get an answering machine and got an answering service instead. D&D called me back immediately and had someone at my door by 2 am to get it fixed so we wouldn't roast. That's what I call service!

You must have RELIANT :-x . I switched from reliant to TXU, I have been paying at least 30% less for the last 3 months including this months bill.

Tips

Change electric company to a lower rate provider.

When looking through mini blinds you should see the ground not the sky.

When getting home lower the temp in steps.. if you keep your house at 80 when you are away and 74 when you are there, drop it to 77 and let it cool down before dropping it down to 74. The house cools down faster!

Put some shade on your outside unit if it is in full sun.

Put solar screens up.

Put window tint on your windows, makes it a little darker but helps.

Good insulated curtains.

Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact Fluorescent Bulbs, if you have the old shop light style bulbs in the garage.. throw them and the fixtures out.

Plant trees on the West, South, and East sides of your house.

Turn off your computer and monitor when not in use.

Air dry dishes.

Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes.

Use ceiling and other fans and turn the thermostat up, turn fans off when gone.

Change AC air filters every month!

AC stays at 73 when home.. 79 when away.
May bill was $133
June was $216
