Goodmorning. We have a 55 g set up and now want to add a sump/fuge. There is no room under the stand to put it. We are thinking of putting it to the side on a double rack stand. Sump on bottom and fuge on top rack. We have this plan in motion but need suggestions to move water. The water would flow down to sump, move across to PH. PH would move water up to fuge across natural filter(macro algae, rock) to PH#2. Then PH#2 would move water up and back to tank. 55 gal reef, 15 long sump, 15 long fuge.

I would advise against using two powerheads to do this, as you will most likely never be able to keep the water level the same.
Your best bet is to either use overflows or drill the tank.
Use an overflow to get water from the display to the BOTH the fuge and the sump. (Tee off of the line and go to both having a ball valve on both to control how much water goes to the sump and fuge. Then pump the water back from the fuge to the sump. A pump the water back from the sump to the display.

Another option is to set the sump and fuge side by side. You can do the same as above but let drill a hole in the fuge and let it spill over to the sump instead of another pump.

Does that make sense?

What I would do, is have the tank overflow into the fuge, then have the fuge overflow down into the sump, then pump the water back up from the sump to the tank. That would be the most user friendly way, easiest to plumb and less of a chance of flooding or pumps running dry.

Thanks for reply. It takes me a little time to sort info, but I have a vague idea of what you are saying. I see that using 2 phs would be trouble. This is our second one but first was so easy. Under the tank, flow down, move over, pump up.

Josh, I like this idea also. I am so glad both of you were on this morning. I would like to get the supplies today and get this done this weekend. We are nearly finished with our light set up.
