Two questions.

I know you guys have a FW and SW line in your Houston store for water.

1) Is the freshwater RO/DI? If so, is TDS tested to be 0?

2) I know you guys mix SW to 1.025. What kind of salt do you use? How much/ gallon does it cost?

Thanks in advance! You have a great store! The tailspot blenny and pom pom crab I bought from you are doing outstanding!

No its just ro water an they use coralife salt

Aw bummer. I called last night and asked if it was RO/DI and they said "yep, 35 cents a gallon!"

Think it's better than the distilled water at Walmart for 88 cents a gallon?

Just a quick bump in case Fish Gallery still reads this or someone knows the answer that frequents there.

Has the TDS on their water been checked? When I called and asked, I think I got someone that may not have known because he just said 'I dunno, all the equipment is in the back and it works great!'

I'm thinking of starting to buy saltwater from there (I've been buying FW the last few weeks and just mixing the remainder of my salt I have), but want to make sure I'm not digging myself in a rut by using water that might not be the best. Their tanks that I see look great, but they have loads more expensive equipment than me...

Is there a reason you don't want to make your own? So much easier than hauling water around.

I get 5 gallons a week. I hate lugging the buckets around. Wish i could find a cheap ro/di setup with booster pump.

They're about 5-10 minutes from my house and I don't have an RO/DI at home. I had been buying Walmart distilled @ 88 cents a gallon once a week, but this saves me the pain of dealing with the local walmart and it's also cheaper when all is said and done. I only have a 14g biocube, so I'd be buying 5 gallons SW and 5 gallons RO water (for top-offs) every two weeks since I usually just do a 2.5-3 gallon water change once a week.

Of course my wife and I decided to start a strict budget before my LED upgrade and at home RO/DI system...ah well.

The bennies for the RO/DI far outweigh an LED upgrade. Plus, some units have an RO only feed that you can plumb to a little spigot, right next to your normal kitchen sink. My family only drinks RO water these days. That unit cost about 100 on Ebay, btw. Pays for itself pretty quickly.

You can get a nice RO/DI setup from BulkReefSupply.com for pretty cheap. You only have a 14gal so you don't need something with really high flow rate.

I've thought about an RO/DI, but one thing is I'm military so I move every 2-3 years. Looking at that link for bulkreefsupply was a little confusing. It seemed it started at 59.99, but then by the time you bought everything, it was well over $100. I'll have to read up on it and play around with it.

Not sure if you get Houston water or if you are out of the Houston area but I was told if you live in the city you have to get the one with special filters for chloramines. I too have been looking at them because I am getting very tired of going to the store and lugging 5 gallon buckets around.
