Some of you know my nephew was about 3 months in on his bio cube softy tank when Harvey hit. They were getting flooded on Sunday and were forced to shut off power to house before they left because of the rising water. He had an inverter I recommended to ride out the storm using the car battery but he did not have a battery air pump. They were prepared for power outage but not an evacuation flood. This meant that all aeration was stopped Sunday the 27th. We were not able to access the house until Sept 4 labor day. I just knew the fish would be dead.
Walked in house and it of course was a total mess. Tank stand was all swollen, moldy and nasty flood water had gotten in the sump. To my surprise all 4 fish were still alive but on the verge of death as all were breathing extremely fast. I threw some Prime in as there some dead snails and really bad looking corals. I told him to get a pitcher and just keep dumping tank water in over and over to get some oxygen in. He did it for about 30 mins.
We did all the cleaning we could on the house and when we left, I was able to bring them home with me and give them a home for as long as needed in my QT tank.
Still can't believe they made it 7 and half days with no aeration! Fish are: Clownfish, Banggai Cardinal,Royal Gramma, and a YWG.
Been working every day on the house so I have not been on MARSH forum much but just had to share.
...need to get some more water in there.
