Replaced my 2x150g ro cartridges along with chloramine and sediment on Franken Filter a few weeks ago.

I just replaced my mixed bed resin yesterday.

Made around 120g of water yesterday/overnight.

Already I’m seeing the first DI cartridge about 50% exhausted.

I was thinking maybe there is an issue with RO filters but water going into DI filters is 7-8ppm.

What gives? I’m going through di resin like a...<you fill in the phrase>...

The high ammonia in the incoming water is destroying di resin-it’s all over Houston.

I have the same issue-just changing the di resin more often

Is the ammonia coming from chloramines?

I have a chloramine filer and an additional carbon block.

In series

Russ @Buckeye Hydro told me this: “Another thing you might do if you want the best RO water quality going to the DI - plumb your two membranes in parallel, not in series.

Yes - the Filmtec 75's have the highest rating of any residential RO on the market.”

In series is OK if you have soft water and adequate pressure. Otherwise, plumbing in parallel will get you the higher (faster) production you might be after.

Plumbing membranes in series with no knowledge of your feedwater chemistry is not advisable, but is common in this hobby unfortunately.

Would you expect 120g of 7tds water from RO production to burn through 1/2 of 1st DI resin cartridge? That is really my main concern.

I use a booster pump. Right now my pressure is at 70psi in front of the RO units.

No, I wouldn't. Number of things may be going on that would cause this. Feel free to give us a call if you'd like to discuss.

What’s your incoming water tds?

Did you pack the di or bough the pre-packed?

We have nasty water and I don’t even burn that much DI.

Incoming tds 408-416
After ro 15
After di 0

I have not measured incoming tds but post RO it is 7-8ppm.

I pack my own resin.

I plan on testing incoming tds when I get back in town. Probably going to adjust pressure up to 85psi as well.

Steve-I don’t recommend exposing the pre-filter housings to 85 psi. Are you talking about turning a booster pump pressure up after those housings?
