LOL, Nope! But I tried some Red Sea a few months back on a new tank and the corals didn't react the same. Tried for 1/2 the bucket & decided to switch back. Corals are perking back up slowly. Ran it at the same Alk too.

Instant ocean reef crystals. It’s what moody gardens uses (last time I was on the tank tour) and what I use. I do 2-3% daily water changes and all of my trace elements are always in check whenever I do an ICP test. I don’t dose anything other than what a calcium reactor on one system doses and two part doses on the other, with the exception of nitrates for both.

I never had any issues with Reef Crystals or regular IO. I was using Reef Crystals before I shut the tank down.

The only I would prefer about Reef Crystals is if they would lower the ALK to 8.0-8.5 dKH.

I always used Seachem Acid Buffer to drop my Alk to that level. Then I had to let the CO2 blow off and it would have been much easier to have a salt with the same ALK level I prefer. The problem was the cost of those high dollar salt brands like Tropic Marin Pro.

If they would have made that salt cheaper, I would have switched to try it. A clear mixing salt is great. Reef Crystals will precipitate if you have the temp too high with the lid on your reservoir.

I haven't used tropic marine, but I have used other expensive salts like Red Sea Coral Pro and feel like all you are paying for is convenience. I have noticed no difference with using Reef Crystals, it just takes longer to mix and you might need to clean your mixing container more often due to build up but the results seem to be near identical as far as the tank inhabitants are concerned. I use mostly Reef Crystals now and see no reason to change.

BRS did a video about the average salt cost, Tropic Marine Pro is not all that much more in the long run.

Yeah about 1/4th more isnt as bad as I thought I must say. Just wish it went on sale for decent breaks, best I've seen is 10% off on BRS where as you can get Reef Crystals for nearly half off from Amazon pretty often so I tend to wait for a sale and buy as much as I have the space to store. You can get the Reef Crystals bucket they use in the chart for 15 bucks less than that from amazon even when its not on sale.

Yeah, I rarely see TM salt on sale. If you shop around though it's never more than $100 & free shipping.

I will say when I was using the red sea, I used 1/4 - 1/2 a cup more salt per 5g bucket to get the same salinity.

Reef Crystals for me as well. When I was doing AWC I was only dosing ALK. CA & Mg never had to dose. Started Moonshining last month and stop AWC, so now I'm starting to dose all 3 major elements plus all the trace elements!
