Does it always have to be this way?

Well, we have the new tank up and running. Since the Maidens Hair situation with our last tank, I've tried to be very careful with what I put in it. Well just shortly after it was up and running we found Aiptasia (1) No problem, a syringe full of Kalk and it was done! Then the time came to put...

    New Heater

We got tired of looking at the Eheim 150 watt heater in our new tank, so we bought this new JBJ heater and controller. If the heater is the same quality as the box it came in I think we've made a good choice.

    New Fuge

I have a PM R-24 set up on my new 65 gallon tank. I had a Quiet 1 3000 on it and it was way to much flow. I replaced it with a Mag 5, still to much, split the return and it's still forcing the Cheato out of the fuge. Is anyone else running one of these little refugiums? If so, what size pump...

    Algae Scrubber

I've been doing some reading on these things. They seem to be primarily used to counter act an infestation of problem algae. But also the claims are made that you can run your system without a skimmer, and not only does it leave more nutrients in the water than a skimmer would, the algae...

We have not been posting much do to a major house renovation but we have been around..... Well after fighting a loosing battle with Maidens Hair for 1 1/2 years, we've finally decided to pull the plug on our 55 and start over. The new tank is a 65 gallon cube which will be used as a stepping...

    Monterey Bay Aquarium

“We are using plasma lighting over many exhibits now here at the Aquarium. The tanks range in all sizes and depths, and they are all custom built so I cannot give you a LxWxH without knowing exactly which tank you are talking about. What will probably be most helpful are some PAR numbers that we...

    PH Issue Solved "Finally"

Our system has been running a lower than normal PH for almost a year. It wasn't dangerously low 7.7-7.9 and I could never discover the culprit. After LOTS of testing and trying different additives, I've discovered the problem. It was the salt mix I was using, Seachem Reef Salt. I didn't think...

    Just for kicks

After a near catastrophic event trying to raise my PH with Kalkwasser, a I received lots of "good" info and lots of reading discovered in most circumstances it would pretty much take care of itself. I found an article that was talking about bringing in outside air to aerate your system in...
