Not sure what part of town you’re in but I’ve got some (variety of acros, including Bali slimer) ready for a home. I’m near Kemah. Hit me up if you’re interested, I might be free later on Saturday.
I find staghorn type corals are a little more hardy and tend to grow a lot faster. I imagine Bali Yellow Slimer would be the fastest growing acro on record, and pretty robust as well.
Usually a home brew place won’t fill to full… they are using K-bottles and so they’re only transferring pressure. While K bottles will probably be charged to a higher initial pressure (2400psi service pressure) than a 10 or 20lb tank you’re using, you’re fighting both any depletion already used...
Great setup, congrats. You'll have to let me know what you think of the sky lights in the coming months. I'm considering swapping those in to replace my metal halide fixtures. The start up costs for 3 of them is intimidating, but I think it would solve a few issues I have with lighting spread.
Another way to phrase this: your concept of "stability is king" is very different than mine. I think stability is absolutely important. Big swings are catastrophic, small swings should be avoiding for success. But I'm very pragmatic, and have lived my life by the phrase "better is the enemy...
my LOGiCAL answer: it doesn’t matter.
i think this is the point we are talking past each other. No one disputes that the alkalinity, calcium, and other trace elements that a calcium reactor effluent provides is going to be more constant (stable) than a dosing pump with a 2 part solution...
I mix up solution about once every six weeks. It’s not bad.
and for performance, I got these two frags on Oct 2. Hawkins enchinata and JF Yellow tips. The second picture is this morning, so about 3 months later. Growth is as good as I’ve ever had personally.
And FWIW I am NOT against a...
I've been around a while, was way more active in forums in years past (spent too much time on ReefCentral and TheReefTank for a lot of years). Set up my first saltwater tank in 1998, have had a few iterations, current one is a 300 gallon display with over 200 gallons of sump+refugium). My...
