just wanted to share my nano. we are new to marsh and looking forward to joining and meeting all of you. this is a great source of information for us. my nano is a 2.5 bowfront with a penguin mini, lots of zoos, ricordia, star polyps and a high fin goby named jack. we just found a tiny pistol shrimp for him at t-n-t, hence the snow globe. my upcoming projects are a mini 12" square, super clean, nano with mh lighting and a mini clam/frag tank with T5 lighting. stay tuned for updates this week.

2 new tanks, looking for suggestions on aquascaping. i like the idea of carpeting the long one, 24"x8"x8", with gsp or zoas. this tank is getting a four bulb T5 setup, total of 96 watts, and the 12" cube is getting a 70 watt mh. also thiking about plumbing these together in to a 10 or 20 gallon sump/refuge. any thoughts?

I like it a lot. Where did you get the 70 watt MH? I'm thinking of adding a couple.

What kind of sand is that? It looks like powder very nice :)

I was wondering have you ever seen a tank like your long one up there thats been carpeted with GSP? I was thinking the same thing for my nano. But would they try to go up the glass and onto the rocks too? I wonder how you could fight them off.

the sand is white tahitian? i think. i have a couple of extra pounds if you want it. i think one way to keep the gsp from cimbing out might be to line the bottom and sides with live rock rubble and just frag it out? constantly.. or maybe some tonga lr stacked against the side. that would look cool completely engulfed in gsp.

thanks for the compliment

i added a porcelain crab yesterday. he is only 3/4 of an inch and from the pacific, so he isn't the usual white with flecks of brown. more light pink with reddish stripes all over. these crabs defend themselves, if you want to call it that, by dropping one or both of their large front claws, and as the claws continue to move around the crab quickly runs for shelter. wierd. i will post a picture as soon as he calms down and comes out from under his rock.

You do realize that all the tanks you have put together won't support the mandarin right?

They don't eat anything but copepods, and anything less than a MATURE 40g tank just doesn't have space for the pod population to be big enough to support a mandarin.

I'd suggest taking it back and trading for something else.

Sorry to sound harsh. This is one of the most common mistakes new folks make.

Interesting... all the tanks we have put together would be... over 150 gallons.

Dreamersdisease (my husband) isn't planning on keeping the mandarin in that tank. The 2.5 gallon is literally infested with copepods, so we thought he might like to hang out in there for a bit and clean it out (stress and competition free) before we moved him over to the 70 gallon next week.

Thanks though.

Sorry...All the ones listed in this thread then. :)

This comes up at least once a week on the nano board I frequent a lot.

Sounds like ya'll know what you're doing though.

Honestly, now that I go back and read his thread, I would have thought the same thing. Those are some pretty small tanks he has going. Really, we're not out to kill the cute little guy. :)

thanks for the concern. i have found that people jump into buying without researching the needs of animals, and i am happy to find that others care enough to say something. he looked unhealthy at the store, his colors were dull at best and he just sat in the corner for two days. he has been with us for three days and looks so much better. he is constantly feeding and cruising the entire tank. all 2.5 gallons, for now
