So mad I am!! I took apart the carb on my 2006 Johnson 9.9 outboard and cleaned her up really good. I then ran out to the auto part store to get 2 new spark plug and swapped those out, hooked up the water muffler and turned on the water, hook up the gas tank, pumped the priming bulb a few times and gave her a few pulls. She started up with a few splutters but ran. I looked at the water pump outlet hole (some people call it the pee hole) and nothing was coming out so I shut her down after 30 seconds of her running. I saw a trail of fire-ants crawling out from my lower unit so I cursed at them!! It made me feel a little better but they did not seem to care as they were busy carrying there larva to safety. I removed the lower unit and opened the water-pump housing. It was clean and the impeller looked good so I reassembled it. I then went and "snaked" the water hose from the bottom up then from the outlet down and all seemed clear. I guess there was only a little but of blockage. Anyhow, I reassembled everything, put mufflers back on, turned on the water, and gave her a few pulls. I get a few put put put and that's it! I opened the drain on the carb's bowl and gas runs out. I gave her a dozen more pulls and same thing. Angry and hot I left her alone for 2 days.

Today, I was really wanting to go fishing so I took the carb apart again, cleaned her again, and reinstalled her. I gave her a few dozen pulls and still just a few put puts. I removed the spark plugs and pulled her a few times, I head the click click so I'm guessing I'm getting ignition (I cant see and sparks) so I reinstalled those too. I'm pretty handy but this is the limit of my abilities.

**Anyone know a thing or two on 2 stroke engines that could give me a hand? If someone can come over that would be great but I could even bring the whole thing to your place to see if we can get her to run. **

Was the motor running prior to maintenance?

If you just got the motor I would do a compression test to see if motor is even good. Compression tester is like $15.

The seller said it was running but has not used in a while. He was an older retired man with another bigger boat. With the way his house was kept and the way his other boats looked, I'm sure he takes care of all his toys.

Since you did the spark plugs and carb clean only thing you have to do is a compression test. Also check fuel lines. Rubber lines deteriorate over time and clogs the fuel.

Since you didn’t see it run you have to go through a checklist now - could be a variety of things wrong with the motor.

Yes fuel filter is a must - something like this inline if motor doesn’t have one.

The bowl ffmor the carb fills with gas well. I checked the little rubber needle on the float and it's in great shape, blow some cleaner through all the orifices and they squirt out the other end. It seems good and clean to me. RR I sent you a DM.

I have a small moto bike 2 stroke..
It is a constant pain but still fun to ride. Listening to yous it gave me the incentive to finally order some baby fuel filters.
