Me and the wife are in the market for a new car, any one have a suggestion in the 35 to 40K range. Tonight we looked at maximas and plan to look at cars for the next few weeks. Soooooooooo if youve got an opinion one way or the other about a car you think is good or bad lets hear it.

My Toyota Camry is clocking in at 224 thousand miles-it is such a good little car. Since, it is so unassuming you can get by many a PoPo before you realize they are there. Take the money you save on insurance and take trip to Bali/or Australia to see some reefs up close....or get your wife a real nice rock for her ring finger. One can never have too many.
Or....a real nice reef tank....
Sorry, for me, Houston traffic-dings-dents plus the statistics that your new car depreciates 20%-35% when you drive it off the lot and 7-12% annually after that has really kept me from investing in new cars. (Can you tell I'm a Dave Ramsey fan)
Just my 2 cents. You asked :D

Test Drive the Hyundai Genesis

$40K will get you the top of the line model and i mean big time luxury

has same or better features than mercedez and bmw, as well as lexus

but at over half the cost

you wont be disappointed

every thing about this car is awesome

especially the engine

bmw and mercedez lexus

have nothing on it

trust me and at least test it out

best bang for your buck out there

motor trend car of the year

I had own several different cars. For example Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Infiniti, Toyota, Honda and Lexus. Overall I like my Lexus the most because it's reliable and inexpensive to maintain. Honestly I would not spend $40k on a Hyundai or a Saturn. Because the ride comfort does not compare to the list of cars that I mention. With a Lexus you can take it to any Toyota dealer for maintence. That's just my .02

just because a car is more expensive does not mean its better

im assuming your well of and can afford some of these luxury brands

however until you drive this car i wouldnt knock it

its that good

and unlike lexus, bmw and mercedes you wont have to be in every month for maintenance or repairs

fishcraze_1,
I never have any problems with my car being in the shop every month. It goes in for maintence when it dues not every month. As for a Hyundai tell me how it ride like 10yrs from now. The ride is not going to be comparable to the luxury car hand down.

a buddy of mine has a hyundai and it is a nice car no doubt, and hyundai has come a long way since they came just like honda and toyota when they were new ( any one remember when a honda civic was spelled cvcc). Hyundai has a car out or coming out that suppose to smoke mustang gts and cars of that type. We will put the hyundai on the list :)

So far we test drove two cars

Nissan Maxima
loved this car, from the paddle shifters to the cvt transmission, gadgets and doo dads I liked it, just wished the interior had a little better fit and finish for the price. The seats were great just seemed like the dash seemed kinda cheesy

Tonight we drove a Honda Accord coupe V6

loved this car as well, very fun to drive, plenty of go when you mash the pedal. I think the interior was better than the maxima also drove the sedan with the v6, definately like the maxima over the 4dr honda 50/50 on maxima and accord coupe. I have owned my accord for 6 years now the only problem I had was with the transmission(recall), with the car out of warranty by 30K miles honda repaired the trans and covered the rental. So I feel as if the honda will be the safest bet so far.

Tomorrow night we will look at used acura TLs as new ones are out of the budget, toyota camry, avalon.

thanks for the input so far guys

Go for a lexus gs350. There were some on sale (08 models) for 38k. I found out from my friend who bought one with his other friend. If not, you should go for a Toyota Camry Hybrid. Great on mileage and not much maintenance. As for maintenance, Lexus / Toyota is fair in pricing. I have had my current car for over three years without any problems at all. As for the IS 350, I think its too small, so try and bump up to a GS. Good luck with your car selection.

I bought an Accord V6 sedan last fall and still love it. Very solid car, great handling, nice engine. Also drove a Hyundai Azera when I was looking and was not that impressed.

I work for a large used car lot.

I would not compare a hyundai to a lexus but yes the Hyundai has come a long way and has a long way to go.

well....... the hyundai is impressive if you trade in your current hyundai for the genesis I want a ride :) how ever coming back to reality noting up 40K made the budget tighter then we want.

But the search is over and we are new car owners.

tonight we took control over a black on black acura TL. We test drove the TSX and TL. The TSX was smaller then we wanted but a nice nice car. The TL fit the bill though, we couldnt pull off a TL with the technology package once reality(wife) remined us what we could afford but after the test drive and romping the demo car :). We didnt need to drive anything else fit and finish is excellanct performance and features (paddle shifters for me)
we took it home.

and... oh ya fellas tonight I saw a side of my wife I dont think Ive seen before. The wiff did the negotiating like a blood thirsty shark and I feel like we got a killer deal thanks to her.

Great!-
That is my son's dream car.
Congrats!
Now, is definitely the time for negotiating. My husband is pretty ruthless and was actually offered a job @ Volkswagen dealership when we finished the purchase. Many years ago.

Omar, how long have you had your Sonata?

being in the field of work I am in I have seen, driven, touched just about every normally available vehicle offered and have to say there is only a few make/models that are completely junk.

The rest, honestly are all pretty much good. Every single car out there is taken care of as far as common sense and basics go will be a "good" car.

Now with that said these cars are built/designed by humans which are prone to mistakes so there will be some cars give more trouble to certain people more then the exact same vechicle owned by another person.

Want reliable with ice cold A/C? find a 1988-1991 Toyota Camry.
