I went to global yesterday, and got some great deals on fire shrimp, rock, chem's, etc... I wanted to buy some corals too, but it looked like all the coral tanks had bad aiptasia outbreaks... anyone else noticed this??

Aptasia is at any LFS just kalk it when you get it and you will be fine. Lets not even talk about another store that has tanks and tanks of brown mushrooms and aptasia. :D

as leslie mentioned. Those are everywhere. Have you been to the China Bear Lately?
They have a huge saltwater tank that makes me wanna choke whoever set it up. Its full of those things. All the corals they had have died, perhaps due to the amount of aptasias they have in that tank.

Good God, I have ONE and it freaks me out, because I know what can happen. My peppermint? shrimp have shown no interest whatsoever, so it's trap time for those freeloaders. I'm going Calc-paste now. I'm going .to borrrow some pickling lime from a friend and load up the kiddy oral syringe and blast away. Goodnight Aiptasia!

Does anyone know anywhere in town that is currently stocking Peppermint Shrimp? I have had a small garden of aiptasia in my 180 gallon for several months now. Fortunately they have not spread, but I know they could at any time. However, in all of that time I have not seen any Peppermint Shrimp in any of the stores that I frequent.

Well, I asked at Fish Ranch on Sunday.

They indicated they were going to be getting some in this week perhaps, but they would be more expensive than usual..

The only place you can get Pep. Shrimps from this time of year is Florida the wholesale price is $3 so who knows what the retail price will be.

why does aptasia get such a bad rap?

I think it's kinda cool how it grows so well and spread so fast.

It's almost as nice as my bubble algae problem that TEN, count them, TEN emerald crabs won't touch with a ten foot crab claw.

oops. sorry. didn't mean to change the thread. oh what am I saying, yes I did

When you kalk aptasia....

Okay, I'm clueless. I got some started caulpera (sp?) for my fuge and it came with at least 2 aptasia. They've rooted to the bottom of my fuge, so pulling 'em out ain't an option. I thought you could use kalk paste to kill them off, but I'm not quite sure that I know what that is / am compentent enough to figure out what to do without killing my entire tank off......

Help?

Inject.. as with a syringe? And just normal lemon juice (like in the yellow bottle in the freezer section of the grocery store). I've got a dosing syringe (from my kid's last ear infection that has been cleaned and is now used as an anemone feeder). DO I use that? Or do you use a needle and syringe?

i used a needle and syringe... my aunt that lives with us is a diabetic and i borrowed one of hers.... i squeezed a fresh lemon and shot it in.... but i know some people using kalk just spray the slurry onto the aptasia... donno if it works the same with lemon juice... might just get lost in the tank...

You really don't need to inject them. If you mix a kalk. paste, thicker than normal and load the syringe up and hold the syringe over the aiptasia or mojano, the kalk. will come out of the syringe and burn them. Hopefully, the first time you burn them it will kill them. Otherwise you may need a second dose.

There is a product that everyone on all the boards{except this one} is talking about. The product is called Joe's Juice{I kid you not} and I believe it to be a kalk. mixture. http://JoesJuice.com/index.html Lots have tried it and seems like those that have are seeing total aiptasia and mojano destruction.
