A thread for discussing all things CNC whether it be laser cutters, routers, or 3D printers!

So @-AnThOnY- I figured we’d bring the discussion here and not distract from that build thread.

So, the reason I went with the X-Carve was because it seemed pretty user friendly, has a large community behind it to help, plus the company has a reputation of being very good at customer service, which proved to be true on all accounts. Mine can cut 1 meter X 1 meter.

Let’s hear more about the one you bought!

The X-Carve was my front runner for a long time and then I stumbled across Onefinity and it just felt right to me. They had some standard versions but right about the time I pulled the trigger they came out with a new "elite" series which just opened the door for pretty much every future upgrade potential. Plug and play for upgrading to a spindle over a router if desired, spindle supports automatic tool changers etc...with the beefy rails this thing has (50mm diameter) it can push something like 500 ipm.

One awesome thing about this brand that I didn't see elsewhere is the ability to store and operate it nearly vertical. So you could wall mount it to save space. I think the X-carve maxed out at 30" cut area while these are 48" and will allow me to feed full sheets of plywood through. I have a little cheap table top cnc but this will really be my first jump into it.

The ultimate question is, how much did this cost? It's a lot sexier than mine, but mine only cost 2k.

I've had the Shapeoko xxl since 6/20. I was looking into the X-Carve at the time but I think it required an internet connection if I remember. I think that was the only difference I could find

For the equivalent to yours (use your laptop to control) but a 48x32” cut area is $2700 so not exceedingly more expensive but a lot more rigid.

I went full bougee for right at $4k

Yeah you do need the internet to connect to their carve software (easel) but you can use third party which don't require that connection. Inventables saves your projects and settings in the cloud.

I started off with a Next Wave Shark HD, sold it and got an AVID PRO4848 4' x 4' for some serious projects.
I used vCarve Pro. We spent a lot more time using the laser though. (AEON Nova 14 / 130 watt laser)
It's all gone now though.

Yeah I remember you saying you wanted to get some for some of your wife’s crafts but never heard if you ended up going through with it or not.

The real stand out here are those floors that are far too nice for a garage floor! You hiding something under them?!

Replaced upstairs floors last year and certainly couldn't let it go to waste. $100 in underlayment and some time, BAM, bougie garage floor.

Work tank (12 gallon long) needs to be relocated due to new flooring install so I am planning to make a mobile stand for it instead of it being on my desk. Here is the shell so far!
