As title says, I am looking for someone in north houston/woodlands area that wouldnt mind showing off their vortech mp-40. I have heard so much about them, some say theyre extremely loud, some say theyre no worse than other equipment. Before I drop the cash on one I'd like to see one in person. Or if anyone knows of a fish store around here that has a tank running one, thatll work.

Thanks!

Try FJW. He should have some used. He'll put it on his tanks for you also to hear it..fyi, I've had 3 and they all sounded different.

They are far from silent, especially if you have them cranked up. Loudest piece of equipment i own, but they are still awesome.

Tolerance to noise is different from person to person so you should go listen for yourself. I have ranging from mp10-60 and none of them really bother me or my wife. To be honest I don't have any of my friends or family coming over and say "oh that is loud." I am running both mp60 and tunze on my main tank and I prefer maintenance on the vortech pump much more. I buy spare wetside so I just pop the old one out dunk in vinegar and swap the standby one in and repeat the cycle. Now my tunze cleaning I always dreaded doing. All these extra long cord to pull in and out. I have all my electrical isolate from the maintank so to pull the tunze cable in and out for pump service is a pain in the ********* in all by itself.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the input. Its all been pretty much up to each person as to whether or not they are loud. Thats the main reason I want to hear them in person.

FJW, i will try to make it over there when I get a chance. Work has been keeping me out of town for some time now.
