I used to be, but I'm about 9 years removed. I'm looking for advice on a head unit. I've been an Alpine elitist for years, but I can't justify what they want for their double din head units (they only sell units with built in nav, which I don't care for). I'm looking for a touch screen unit that will work with my iphone (audio/video), backup camera, preouts for a couple amps, bluetooth. Pretty standard stuff. I'm leaning towards a Sony XAV72-BT, but I remember being underwhelmed with Sony products when I used to do installs professionally. The JVC KW-AVX840 also has my attention. What would you buy for around $600?

Alpine has always been high dollar.

The last couple units I have bought have been Pioneer's.

Usually the smaller car stereo stores blow out last years models up to half off, if you are not interested in the "Latest and Greatest".

I've wired up all my own systems up until the truck I have now.

I can't give you any recommendations on head units, but if you need wiring or troubleshooting, lemme know.

My current unit plays my iPhone needs & charges it. I don't like navigation or touchscreen.

Thanks for the offer, Tempset. I've done probably a hundred different alarm/remote start installs in my day, so hopefully I won't run into issues wiring up a radio. ;)

Still havent decided on anything, though leaning towards that sony unit.

Yes, you can add a back-up camera. I don't see how a head unit can really get any better. Has everything I need, has a sub output and video output for my headrest monitors. Has a nice tuning set-up so you can get the sound you like. I did get a little relay so that I can watch while I drive, USB port in the front that has a nice little door that covers it.

I don't think it has Bluetooth though, or multiple amp outputs. But I'm not a girl so I don't really talk on my phone too often. And I have kids so I don't need more than one amp.

Yeah, I like that handsfree setup myself. Helps keep both hands on the wheel. :)

Oddly enough, I'm in the market for a new system for the Tundra... I've been eyeballin' the Alpine INA-W910. I like Pioneer, too... I just like Alpine a little more. :)

Padanky, so you hooked that up in your Scion? I wonder how it would look in my son's Vibe. It could use a radio with connections for his Ipod, and I'm sure he would like the DVD. Thanks for the info, I'll have to check it out.

Yeah, it's in the Scion. You can change the back lighting to match the interior lighting. Charge your iPhone directly from the USB on the front. Somewhere on YouTube I watched a video that ranked it i think 2nd for top 10 headunits. For the money, can't go wrong.

I was a manager at Mobile One and at Tweeter back in the late 90-early 00's. CRVZ they do not make headunits like they used to, especially the Audiophile units.

I will totally agree with padanky for sure on this unit, I got the model above his (3300-bt) because I wanted the Blutooth, PLEASE do not buy it for this, the BT is horrible but everything else is excellent on this unit for sure

I know a guy that has his own shop so let me know if you need anything
