My gf picked up some perrywinkle snails to put in the tank without me consent. I didnt want them to die so I put them in and im watching them close. They look very strange and I cant find anything that says there not reef safe. Anyone know?

what kind of periwinkles?

Do you happen to know what kind of periwinkles they are and where she got them? The common marsh periwinkles are about an inch long and they rarely go down into the water. They typically stay up on the blades of marsh grass and eat algae. The little zebra periwinkles are very small and have black and white striped shells and normally stay on the rocks at the water line. They may not be safe for you.

You mean periwinkles are edible? That's a new one on me...
I wonder how they're prepared?

I just assumed she had gotten them from the coast.

I bought snails to feed the octopus from HEB all the time that were labled periwinkle snails. I never noticed them showing any interest whatsoever in the soft corals, mushrooms, or LPS that I had in the tank. I'm not sure how these snails are prepared for food. They look too small to be escargot.
