i've read articles about magnesium precipitating out of solution under certain circumstances. I think this is a more likely scenario then actually magnesium consumption. From the articles ive seen, calcareous algae takes up the most magnesium. That would kinda make sense for your macro algae tank. But if you consider a regular tank with something more common like coraline. Mag content of coraline is like 5%. The rest is pretty much calcium carbonate. You'd have to go thru a lot of alk/calc to match up with how much mag was spent.

I think maybe there was something else at play. Magnesium Hydroxide precipitation or magnesium carbonate.

I'm talking about my reef tank, not macro tank. Like I said no one would believe me, lol :)

i never doubted you lol. how much are you going through?

I gave up measuring it awhile ago, but I think I was going through about 50ppm or so per day.

I guess I'll assume that they are using that much because everything is growing fairly quickly. 4 new zoa head's(the larger zoa's from a five head frag) in a week and war coral has grown about a quarter inch in about a week in a half. Just started dosing Mg. guess that did it.
