I always love the Blue tang and so as my wife they are amazing colorful fish just we don't wanna kill one more.
I have the worse luck with these guys I killed 4 so far. I think 2 of them was maybe the tank was a little too new. The other two was from my Naso pick on them they got ICK. Now I'm considering attempting more medium-large size one.
The problem is I still have my large yellow tang and he is very mean....I don't want to get rid of him cause he been in my tank for a very long time. I do have a small breeder net tank for holding him in the main tank to he get use to it for a week or so. But I'm scare as soon as I let him out the large yellow will attack. Any advice? Taking the yellow out is a big hassle for me BTW its really not a option Too much work and could cause stress. Get one more and risk or just say no and move on? Thanks for any advise or tips on getting this done.

Not trying to be part of the tang police but blue hippo needs a very big tank. They are very susceptible to ick and need to be added before a yellow tang. Or else the yellow will just kill it. IMO not worth all the hassle.

You need a long tang to properly take care of one. They need to constantly swim. Esp a medium/large one, or else they'll just start stressing and get ick and die. Tang police recommend a 6' tank.

I had similar thoughts. Territorial issues will increase significantly when putting these fish in small tanks. For the three fish you've thus far mentioned (yellow tang, naso tang, and now the blue tang), I wouldnt consider that combo in a tank under 180 gallons, but probably larger if they were anywhere near adults. Your signature implies nothing larger than a 72 gallon tank, and I would therefore pass on adding any more tangs.

Bad boys bad boys.... What you gonna do when they come for you.

Haha but seriously, I'm just saving you the heartache and money. Feel free to add whatever you want to your tank though. If you want him that bad just take the yellow tang out of your 50g. Might be enough room for a blue hippo for a year or two.

It's like putting a crazy chihuahua in a cage with a crazy bloodthirsty michael vick pit bull. It ain't gonna be pretty.

I dunno if 10m would have made a difference. It could be tempeture differnces,

From what ive noticed, switching 2 waters like that shouldn't have made that much of a difference. Maybe It was stress, maybe it was sick and diseased already and the sudden changes pushed it over the edge. Its hard to say.

I'm sorry for your lost.

But Tony, didn't you agree not to get a tang? I hope you moved the yellow tang outta the 50g to at least give the blue tang a fighting chance if it makes it. If you were trying to put the blue tang with the yellow tang still in there, that would have been pretty irresponsible.

Yes I will move him out once he out grown the tank, I plan to move and have a large tank like Hong so not to be worried. But now the tang is doing ok he is swimming now but the other new tang I got is not doing so good he is just side ways...I have to keep eye on both of the new tang in the holding tank for now.

Ps I couldn't help it man I love those blue tang!!! I had to get one every time I go to the store I see them..lol Its also Reefwatcher fault he had one in his tank and I saw it many times when I was over there last week..lol

Is this a joke? I can't believe your lack of consideration for these fish. Why bother asking for help when you are clearly going to do whatever you want? You've killed 5 so far...isn't it time to consider maybe the problem isn't the fish?

You love blue tang? You could have fooled me.
