I have a custom built reactor. When the co2 ran out, I took the bottle to get it refilled and they told me it had to be pressure tested since it was an old bottle. It took two weeks to get the bottle back and my reactor sat for that long. so my question is - Do I need to drain the reactor and put in new media or is it alright to put the bottle back on and crank it up?

Thanks,

Steve

Put the bottle back on and crank it up. It should not make a difference. All you did was shut off the Co2 feed right? It will take a few days to get it dialed back in but you should be ok.

The bottle should have a date stamped right into the body of it telling you when to have it tested. If it was pass due they should have just traded you for a different bottle. They should be pressure checked like every 5 years or so....

Now during those 2 weeks, did you cut off the water flow through the reactor, or continue to let water go through it? If you cut it off, then I would rinse out the reactor/media good and flush it out before turning it back on.

calcium reactor

I drained and flushed the media and restarted it. The ironic thing about the cylinder is that they wanted to test the thing and refill it for me. They let it sit and it got lost behind other (i't a 2.5 gal) larger cylinders. When I went to pick it up, they hadn't done anything to it. They told me then that they would go ahead and just exchange it. I went to their shop to get it and the guy asked me if there was a reason that I had that small a tank. I told him that I couldn't afford the 5g. He then came out with a 5g and said here's you a "hook-up". So I got a 5g for free and only paid for 2.5g of co2. Wish I could get that good of a deal on a new tank! Buy a 225g and pay for a 110g! BTW the tank was stamped 1986. I don't know where the guy that I bought it from got the tank but I wish I could make my co2 last that long! LOL! Thanks guys.
