Was on my way out the door last evening, saw a dog sitting next to a car as if it was an attempt to stay out of the element. Didn't stop because I had to give a friend a jump with her car at Home Depot. Came back and noticed it was strolling aimlessly in my subdivision. Made a mad dash to grab some leftover from the fridge to coax her to come closer for a better inspection. At one point she must have been someone's dog but she looks emaciated with ribs sticking out on both sides. Very pretty dog with blues eyes and very docile. Probably a husky mixed with German shepherd.

I googled and there are a few No kill shelters in town but does anyone have any experience with any of them? Just want her to go to a reputable shelter. Can't take in any more strays, just don't have any room left for more. Now why can't I be a chic magnet with women just like do I with stray animals? LOL but thats another story for another day. Thanks for reading!

We got one of our dogs at the SPCA, they are no-kill and pretty good turn over. I was going to go home and get my wife to come look and the volunteer said he wouldn't be there when I got back (as someone else would adopt him).

Really? Ive been told SPCA and Humane Society are killing factories for dogs. IIRC, they said dogs only get x amount of time on death row.

Try CAP on I-10. They only take in certain animals so you have to call them the day of and ask what they are taking. Also, if the dog is ill they will euthanize. They examine it as it is dropped off. Special Pals is also no-kill but even harder yet to get the animal into. Good Luck! It just kills me to see so many strays running the streets these days...

Humane Society is definitely a set period of time, whoa- just checked and SPCA does euthanize if the pet develops health or behavior concerns. Call to check- I've only used from adoption side at least it isn't a ticking clock like the humane society which is a set time frame.

Took my other dogs to CAP to get fixed and vaccinated. Did not know they take in animals.

To me, SPCA and Humane Soc are just big conglomerate themselves. They are more into the business of making money if you asked me. People go there to adopt or even drop off there's a fee associated with either one. I never knew we have so many animals on the street until I moved here.

And if she is a mix of husky and german shepherd there are TONS of animal groups that would be willing to take them in.

CAP also euthanizes if there are health concerns. They do it on the down low because they don't want to lose the no kill label. Not saying it is wrong because you can't expect them to house every animal indefinitely and pay for medical costs they can't afford. They are great people doing great work so not bashing at all. I volunteered there at the old location and they truly care for each animal. If it was me I would find a breed rescue program for GSDs and go from there. Good job helping her out and wanting to do what is best for her.

I agree...check with a German Shepherd rescue (if Cat or Aesl1982 don't take her first :))- although some breed specific rescues will only take in that specific breed and not mixes.

Thanks guys. It's quite often I run into strays, injured, abandoned animals of all sorts. Always try to take them in or at least give them temporary shelter, I'm sure many of you would do the same.
Dogs with light blue eyes are they almost exclusive to Huskies? Am I correct in my assessment that shes a GS+Husky? I could see once she puts on weight she'll look absolutely gorgeous. Already made herself comfy at my house and horsing around with my other dogs. I took her for walks without a leash and she always come back to me when I called.
