My son's Nano got toasted a few months ago, and while it plays and the computer sees everything on its hard drive (flash drive, whatever), the screen is cracked. The light comes on but the picture is just straight vertical lines.

I felt badly for him and bought him another one, and now would like to know if there's some way for me to place the new screen, faceplate and clickwheel on his old one (the back was inscribed for him so I'd like to keep that).

I don't have the nerve to take it apart myself without knowing if it can be done, so has anyone actually done this or know if it can be done?

Thanks. :)

Oh yeah, this time I also bought him an aircraft-grade aluminum case.

WOW, freakin-a - a very kind MARSHian sent me a PM with a link to a somewhat local iPod repair center...so I got to looking around online for DIY repair instructions (LOL) and happened across a CNET article from a year ago that talked about one-tenth of one percent of all Nanos having a screen with a manufacturing defect that is more prone to cracking (not scratching) - so for grins I called Apple and what do you know? A free, brand-new replacement iPod - complete with my son's chosen inscription - will be on its way shortly.

I guess Mama has herself a new iPod! :lmao:

So never mind on my original question! :D

Alright! I'd go bonkers if something happened to my iPod, I had to reset the stuff to default and I cried thinking it was broken. I was so emotional the other half of me had to take it away from me to fix it. I think I'll marry it. I have a waterproof case for it that let's me take it swimming or in the hot tub. Grats' on the new iPod.
