Well after I dismantled my 20 long when I left college I setup a 58 gallon tank that I thought would be my next reef. But things have proven to be a lot more frustrating with a larger tank strangely enough. I evap about a gallon to a gallon and a half a day, my tank has never really settled into a constant healthy state and honestly I really miss having a small tank. So today I went out and bought a 15 and 5.5 gallon to size down to. The 15 gallon will be my main reef and I am going to put 3 24" VHOs over it. Hopefully heat won't be an issue. I am also thinking about doing a hang over the back closed loop with a mag 3. That should keep powerheads out of the tank. With the 5.5 gallon I am hoping to have a RBTA and a clown in it. I am going to light it with a 64 watt PC hood and am considering gong with one full actinic bulb and one 50/50 to achieve a really blue look. Do yall think that will provide enough light for the anemone? If not I can go with the traditional 10000K/actinic combo. Any problems keeping the anemone in that small of a tank? Water changes would surely be a must and will be done once a week to ensure perfect water quality.

Those are the plans, hopefully I will be able to put them in action soon. The 5.5 is going up first so that it can mature. As soon as I find a suitable stand for the 15 then I will start working on it as well. Let me know what yall think. Anything I should add or subtract? If so, please feel free to comment.

And if you have a big tank, I will have plenty of stuff for sale in the near future so keep a look out.

I would put the clown in the larger of the two tanks, at least. 5.5 gallons ain't much for a clown unless it's a tiny baby one.....then eventually should be moved to a larger setup. I have seen clowns do fine in that small of a tank, but they become distorted in shape over time. But hey, it's up to you.

Personally I think the 5.5 would be too small for the anemone. Even the 15, but that all depends on your skill as a nano tank keeper. According to Dr Shimek's book 50 gallon is minimum size for RBTA.

Well I am quite skilled as a nano keeper, and am going to let the tank sit without any bioload for a couple of months before introducing the anemone. I can't see why else you couldn't keep it in a 5.5 gallon except for stability concerns, which are concerns with all nanos. I added sand, water, and some liverock today. New bulbs should be here friday. I'll keep updates on the progress as we go. If it doesn't end up as an anemone tank it would make a cool goby/shrimp combo tank, or even just a shrimp tank with mushrooms and polyps.

There is a small change to my 15 plans though. Instead of using 3 bulbs I am going down to two VHOs because of possible heat issues. I took my old 30" metal CSL hood from my 20 and cut it down to 24" so that it would fit over my 15. It turned out pretty nice and actually looks like it was made for that tank. Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed that there is room enough for the bulbs inside. I am pretty confident that they will fit though.
