So my neighbor sent me a letter a while back that said the "excessive and unessesary" blue light coming from my living room windows was a neusence. They say they have called the HOA. Apparently they put a lot of money into their new outdoor patio with tv.... and my blue light is distracting. WTF?!

I called the HOA and asked about the complaint and they said the complaint was investigated and no violation was found. So I wrote back NICELY explaining that it was necessary for the tank.

Fast forward to today. Recieved a letter asking me to "simply" move my fish tank to another room. LOL!! What is wrong with these people. It is barely noticeable from outside. Am I wrong to think they need to get over themselves?

Send simply a letter back that they never contacted you about their outdoor patio and TV that is distracting your expensive livestock.
And activate your thunderstorm settings if you have them, ASAP!

Send a letter back saying that the noise from their outdoor tv is excessive and disturbing the peace and ask them to move their patio to the other side of the house.

Tell them to get a life... Tell them their patio is making you ill when you see it and that you would like them to relocate it to another location on their property.

Also add that any further communication from them regarding this issue will be considered harassment.

Da, how many hours of the day could they actually see the blue light? reminds me of a neighbor who came over to complain because I was cutting
down their shade tree that was in my yard. I told them I didnt want to rake the leaves. 2 days later my crew started digging the pool that was going there.
Never could understand why they never talked to me, but then all the other neighbors loved swimming in the pool.

I am thinking of writing another response and maybe explaining that the light schedule is important and that it is too big to just move. Maybe even getting Urban Aquatics who are familiar with the system to write up an estimate of what it would cost and the risk to my livestock involved with moving it. And just say that even if moving it was an option, which it isn't, it would be far from "simple".

I do not know though, maybe the best response is ignoring it. I mean, even if they press the issue there is nothing they can do legally. I just think it is petty.

Some people are just asinine. Simplest and most productive thing to do is ignore it, feeding their ignorance, even with common sense, will simply make it grow. They are obviously ridiculous and logic isn't going to be a factor.

Now if they do anything else after that, then you bust out the harrasment and cease and desist letter along with your complaints to the HOA of noise and light pollution from the tv, ensuring the got every permit necessary for their patio, each poop their dog landed in your lawn, etcetera.

I say round up Marsh and tp-ing their yard/house. Or just tell them you need the lights to contact ET & their whinnying is a hindrance to the advancement of mankind.

Wow! LOL. They would freak if they saw my house. The way my windows are the entire left side of my house glows blue at night. I'd ignore them also. Nothing they can do.

Some people! I'd just ignore it. If they approach you face to face about it, then I'd let them know that you maintain an aquarium full of livestock that require the lights for survival and that it is way to heavy to be moved- nor do you want to move it. It was placed in it's location for your pleasure just as their outdoor TV was placed for theirs.

I am not sure why they feel that being "neighborly" is so one-sided.

Since this is the second letter I would go knock on their door and talk to them. Seems like you must not know your neighbor so this would be a good chance to get to know each other. Take a bottle of wine/beer/cake/etc.

If they are still pissy about it find an old Metal Halogen light fixture and mount it right next to their house/patio, make sure it is high enough to clear the fence. Those light fixtures make a loud humming sound and are almost as bright as the sun. If they complain tell them it is you are trying to counter out the blue light.

By the way, I have one of the light fixtures if you need it. :D

Do you not have curtains?

BTW, you're not the first person on MARSH to experience this issue. Be assured, other MARSHians have gone through the same thing with their neighbors. In my neighborhood, everyone refers to my house as the alien mother ship.

good luck,

Send them an estimate of what it would cost to have professional movers come take down the tank, move it, set it back up, maintain until it is back in the original status, for the paper and pen, plus the cost it would take for you to consider moving it. Tell them you would be happy to move it if they pay the bill in full. With the even number of $1 & $10 bills, of course. :D

I have wooden blinds and I have looked at it with the blinds wide open and it just isn't very bright. My blinds are always closed before I leave the house and when it gets dark so it can't be that bad. I tried taking a pic when I posted this thread and you couldn't even see it in the dark with the blinds closed. The halides go off at 3pm so all they are seeing is pcs. Imagine how bad it will be when I get LEDs. I am glad to know I am not alone. I seriously thought these people had lost their minds. I mean the lights are not flashing or changing color. Did I mention that you cant even see it from the street it is in my back yard on the back of the house. Wanna know what I hate? The fact that he pulls his car into driveway and opens all the doors so he can blare his music while he does ANYTHING in his garage or front yard. Do I report him? No bc in the long run it doesn't hurt me. I would rather have to look at a blue glow from a window than listen to loud music.
