As some of you may have been reading about my recent semitank crash, I have now found the cause.

I know I should of had a reefkeeper, etc. But here is what happend. My little Digital temp gauges went out so I ordered one online for $4 and was waiting, some minor changes went on in my tank. So the Wife forced me to go get a Digital Gauge at Petco before things all died. So $14 later I now have a gauge, installed it and to my suprise the tank was too cold. (very cold outside and tank is in entryway) so it takes 3 heaters (800w) to get it to 76 only to drop into the 60's when lights off. Struggled with that for a week till the new gauge got here. Installed the new gauge to find a 14 degree difference, 91 degrees! So right away I took the two extra heaters out and dialed my Titanium back to it's normal position. Few things have changed for the better. Today at lunch I ran across the street and barrowed the nieghbors gauge to see which one of my gauges was right.

Turns out I was boiling my tank at around 85-91 for the last week and a half!!!

Deaths include:
Nice Hammer Frag
Sea Apple
2 Fire fish
Mandarin
Bleached my Orange and Red Monti Caps
Bleached my LTA
Bleached Small GBTA
Kenya Trees
PomPoms
Xenia
Finger Leather
GSP
Pink Flower Pot
Cactus Coral
Green Birdsnest Frag
Pink Birdsnest Frag
PIF Green polyp Orange Birdsnest
PIF Tri Color Valida Frag
Brown Digitata Frag
Emerald Green Stag
PIF Fire and Ice Digitata
PPE Blastos 4 heads
Green Tyree Toadstool Frag from Fishcraze is ?

Green Pagoda is still undecided

Working on getting a Reefkeeper Lite 1

I had the same problem with one of those coralife digital ones. It was like 7 degrees off. Now I go by my Ranco controller. It is very reliable from what I've read.

Good luck on it now that you have it figured out.

Wow! I thought something was fishy with those heaters not heating the tank. Really sorry to hear all that died, it's always some new problem it seems.

I've got some pulsing xenia, gsp, green birdsnest, blue digitata, and a GBTA for you when you're ready.

Ok Dustin, give me a couple weeks. I need to get a few things first. Another bucket of salt, reefkeeper, etc. Maybe a month.

Hows the 40 coming along? I want pics asap! LOL.

Those cheap, ugly stick-on liquid-crystal thermometers are surprisingly accurate. While I would not feel comfortable running a system based solely on their readings, they do offer a nice standard of comparisons to what our expensive electronics tell us. Lowly and ugly, they get a bad rap. I’d consider attaching one to your sump just to use to verify what the other “better” thermometers read.

Sorry for the misfortune.

No problem, just let me know.

I got it setup, put the substrate in and got it about 3/4 full. Waiting on my sump to be done before I fill it the rest of the way. I built the canopy yesterday and got it stained today, going to put the satin on tomorrow. If everything goes as planned I'll have it running this weekend. I'll be sure and post some pics.

+1 on the ranco controller.

oh man that sucks!

i've got a cheapo digital thermometer for a quick check and then an ADA J-thermometer hanging in my skimmer return as a "real" temp.

i personally like the double check system. good luck with the recovery man.

Thanks guys, I'm going to let the tank get settled back in before I add anything else. I'm working on getting the Reefkeeper Lite. Work is the Slowest ever right now so not sure how soon my wife will let me get anything anyway, and she works at NASA (for now).

I'm going to try and get some updated pics soon.

$%!&!!! Poor thing. I'm glad you decided to add a controller. After your issue I'd be running to probes just to be sure. :/

I'm sorry to hear about the losses, but very happy you solved the problem.
