Over time that can't be good for the joints on a glass tank :-( Just thinking out loud.

That is exactly what I was thinking.

+1 on originality. It is looking quite sharp.

What about a side door to reach the skimmer, rather than coming out the back?

That was in the original plans, but I ended up putting the rear 2x4s under the corner of the tank, and then there was not quite enough room (>6") for a door. But I ended up reconfiguring it a couple of times since. I really need to up date my pics. The skimmer is now external in a 15 gal bucket and I now have two 29 gal tanks in the bottom, the rear one is raised up about 4", spilling into the front one through two bulkheads. The front one is 100% display, the rear one is basically just 2/3 extra water volume, a filter sock holder, skimmer pump, heater, phosban reactor pump, and 1/3 for a fuge. I have some chaeto in it with a 6500K light, but it does not grow at all. Still the same little green ball of fuzz I got like 5 months ago.

I still have lots to do on it. I want to make a hood with 2-4 T5HO bulbs to supplement the 150w MH bulbs, and also make an acrylic cover around the top of the bottom tank to block the bottom light. And I need to make a box to hide the skimmer and ATO reservoir, the boss really does not like seeing it all!

Since I now have well over 500lbs on the bottom slide out tray, it is basically useless for everyday pulling out. I've only pulled it out once since I set up the second sump, and that was when the two tanks were almost empty during a water change. I probably only had 10 gallons in the front tank for the fish to stay in. Now I pull the small drawer out and work on the tanks through the drawer opening if I need more room. I don't plan on moving the stand around unless the display tank is drained down at least 1/3, and 3/4 in the bottom. It is over 1300lbs total right now.

But this tank & stand will work until I get another, larger one. :D
(I need my son to ask Santa for a bigger tank, do you think that might work?!?)

That may be your only hope. I know it would be mine!

Sweet! I can't believe I missed this last year! Tanks look very cool! Any plans for a matching stand to hide the skimmer in? Then you have an excuse for another tank on top of it! Say 120 gallon???????

:D Thanks! That is exactly the current plan. I'll make a cabinet about 2'x1-1/2'x4' to house the skimmer and the ATO container. I would like to have the cabinet the same height as the stand, but unless I get another skimmer, this one is the tall ES-100 model and it is like 26" tall, I'll have to make the side cabinet taller.

If (when) I get a 120, I'll make a completely new stand for it.

I figure it is about time for an update, before I get started on my new tank. Here are a few of the newer additions:

Awesome!

How's the 120 coming?

Thanks, but there is not much progress on the 120. I started to tear apart the stand I got with the 120 since I plan to use some of the lumber for the addition to my existing stand to support the 120. I don't recall if I showed it to you, but the latest plan is in the attached PDF. I'm adding the 16"x32" cabinet to the left of the existing stand and creating a new flat 48" x 32" surface for the tank and overflow plumbing.

Perfect spot for that monti.
It's gonna get HUUUUGE! :D

Thanks, and I HOPE so. As soon as I set it in place, the flame hawk jumped right on it to try out the new vantage spot!

What type of stain did you on the stand? It looks great!
Thanks. It is a Minwax gel stain, probably about 3 or 4 coats covered by a polyurethane satin clear coat. It is the kind of stain you can use on metal or fiberglass doors to make them look like wood. It still shows some wood grain through the stain, but is a good solid color otherwise.
