I second Ben's (Diesel) post. Lights aren't needed but Dr. Tim's is a great product. Many of us have used it with great success.

Its a 90 gallon tank. New to the forum so don't know any members to get sand and live rock from. I'll see if Urban Aquatics has it or one of the other sponsors this weekend.

It depends on what size tank you have (gallons)

One & Only Nitrifying Bacteria for Reef & Nano Aquaria | Ammonia Removal | Clean Fish Tank

You always can go the old school route and ask a cup of sand and a small piece of LR out some members 100% cycled setup.
Will take about on average 6 weeks but it's almost free.

Thanks Diesel! I am not setup just yet, I am waiting on my Sump to arrive tomorrow, fingers crossed! After that I will be good to go!

Dude, this is marsh!
Just ask and you can receive.
There's always a member that can miss a cup of sand and a piece of small LR to seed your tank.
Of course a Dr Tim treatment is speeding things up.
When you get to UA shoot me a note and I have a piece of LR to help seed for coraline and other benificial bacteria.
I'm only a mile down the road.

Just my opinion but I'm kinda picky. You don't know how old the bacteria is on a LFS shelf. I personally would order a bottle straight from Dr. Tim's website. Remember to grab a small bottle of ammonia also to feed the bacteria.

Sorry I edited my post above. I meant to say lights AREN'T needed. :D

Thanks Mark, I edited your post in my head! Good point on the shelf time. Things are starting to arrive in the mail so I am getting more and more excited. I think I've watch every video on Youtube about Saltwater tanks. I seem to remember as much as I forgot from having my first tank years ago.

videos are great but there's some awesome articles in the ReefKeeping magazine. Here's a good start. Read and memorize everything in this link. Once you have mastered Randy Holmes-Farley we will move you on to the next author. Haha!

+1 on that Dr. Tims

kinda makes the old way of cycling comparable to the way cavemen made fire by hand, now a days making fire is as easy as the flick of a thumb.
