Dive trip after MACNA? (1 Viewer)

I would like to gage the response on the possibility of getting a dive trip arranged to the Flower Gardens, which would leave Sunday evening after MACNA ends.

There are two options of doing this:
Booking with less people, which would increase the dive price for the weekend, or booking it at a cheaper price to make the book unbearably packed.

Divers would need to bring their own equipment, except tanks and weight belts can be provided if needed. If divers would like to rent equipment, they can arrange that thru a local dive shop or Gulf Diving. There would be 5 dives on Monday, 4 on Tuesday and 2 on Wednesday. The boat would arrive back to Freeport around 5-6pm.

Thoughts? Anyone interested?

I would be interested too. Do you have any idea what kind of price range we are talking?

Depending on the number of people who we want to sell to, it would be $400-550 for the 3 days. This would include the meals, bed (sheets, blankets and pillows), tanks and weightbelts.

Here are some pictures taken by James Wiseman of the Flower Gardens. Here he is with his fancy camera. :)

I've been on a Flower Gardens trip and it was absolutely awesome. My only complaint was how crowded it was. When you say MACNA, are you referring to September 6?

Nope, I think that is the spawning trip, which has been booked for a while. MACNA is Sept 22-24, so departure would be on the 24th to start diving on the 25th.

The boat normally holds 34 divers + 6 crew. I am hoping that if there is enough response that we will lower the amount on the boat to about 25 divers to give us more breathing room.

We are also looking for a few insured dive masters for the trip. If anyone knows of one or two, let me know.

I am interested, but I've just gotten certified to dive, is it a good dive for novice divers?
Eric says, "that at that time of the year the waters are normally calm and alright for new divers, but occasionally there are currents and possibly waves. The current shouldn't be a problem because they do have drop lines and spare regulators at 30ft. As long as you don't freak out with the current, you should be fine. If the waves are too high, the boat won't go out."

Kim,

I've talked to Shave already, but I'm one for a DM position. I'm also trying to find one or two other of my normal crew who can help out.

What ship will we be using, and what is the departure / arrival information (dates and times)?

Also, if there are member wishing to go who are NOT advanced certified / deep dive specialty certified, please PM me and I'll see if we can get together for a targeted class in "things you need to know". As the MD thread states, the "top" of the flower gardens is at the max reach of most entry level divers, but we can correct that with one weeend of classes and dives up at Lake Travis.

Thanks
