I'm going to try DIY LED again, but this time go beyond the 50/50 RB/CW setup I did before. This will be going over my DSA Neo Nano(link in sig). The tank is 24"x24"x13" tall. My lighting shroud/canopy will make the pendant hang at between 13-14" over the water surface.

I found an 8.46" heatsink at heatsinkusa with the t-slots like the makersink, but I got it square. Thinking about using the following:

(8x) Cree 3-UPS (RB,RB,NW)
(4x) Ocean Coral White (Red,Blue,Cyan)
(8x) Hyper Violet
(4x) True Violet
(4x) Cool Blue

Should this do the job? I will be separating the LEDs into different color channels controlled by my custom LED controller. Probably using the meanwell LDD drivers. Hoping to not have any "disco" effect or any spotlighting. I would like to have a nice smooth look similar to my 250w MH pendant with a 14k or 20k bulb. I mainly want to get away from the heat and large ballast.

DUDE THAT IS GONNA BE SICK!!!

first: I love my ocw, YOU WILL TOO

Second: you have the right idea about the lay out, looks good

Third: after you build it we can test it out over my tank for a few years

Fourth: I LOVE MY OCW!!!

Im not sure rparker2112 do you REALLY like the OCW LED's? I wasn't getting that vibe LOL..:lmao:

Dustin I really like the setup. My problem with DIY is I can NEVER make it look good aesthetically. I don't think you are going to have that issue. How are you going to setup the driver's for this?

oh yeah who is your source for hyper violet and true violet leds? I'm guessing ledgroupbuy but was just curious.

I hope I'm going to like it, I'm really hoping I don't have to change anything.

I haven't sat down and actually ran the numbers and put it on paper yet, but I know I will be using the Meanwell LDD drivers and controlling the dimming with a custom atmel(arduino) based controller. I will likely have 5 or 6 drivers and 5 dimming channels. Royal blues, whites, ocean coral whites, violets, and cool blues. Not totally set on anything yet, need to do some more research.

Yeah, the violets will be from ledgroupbuy, actually almost everything will be. Based on some recent advice, I have decided to forget the true violets and go all hyper violets. Apparently there's still an issue with the plastic lenses being affected by the low uv light of the true violet.

Thanks for the link Steve. The mean well boards are pretty handy, went ahead and ordered one for 6 drivers. I also checked out the storm x. I actually have all the parts to make one up, looks like that's what I'm going to go for since they have the sketch online.

I'm now finding out that my 250w metal halide pendant is too much for a shallow tank like this, even with the lower par ab20k bulb. Most of my zoas are shrinking a bit even at the bottom front of the tank. I guess these Hamilton Cayman sun pendants are pretty good.
