If so, where in the tank are they (depth), what kind of lights do you have, and how much has it grown?

I'm trying to determine if a 250 watt MH SE will keep acros and clams at any depth of a 24" cube...

I do not personally own any clams. With that disclaimer out of the way, I have seen plenty of tanks with them. Yes, they were ALL metal halide tanks and the clams were always sitting on the bottom at least a couple feet down. If it were me, I'd bet that a clam would be fine under 250 watts mh and a few vho actinics.

The closer to the light the better the Maxima will look. They are a rock dwelling clams like crocea and will cement themselves to the rocks. Currently I have a one being broiled 6" under a 150W HQI next to all the light loving SPS. Squamosas and Derasas can go at the bottom of the tank and even under PC/VHO but there colors don't really "pop" unless they are under intense light like MH.

I have a blue maxima at the bottom of my 75. It enjoys my dual 175w 10k Xm's and 2x54w T5's

How long does a new tank need to mature before adding a clam?

Tridacna clams need to be kept in a well aged mature reef system. They are like sps corals in that respect. Barry suggests clams not be added for at the very least 6 months.

Currently I have 1 4" T. maxima tear drop and it is right up under my water surface, just off to the side of a 250w 10k XM. It has easily grown a good 1" in the time I've had it. I have 3 other Pohnpei collected maxima's from Barry at www.clamsdirect.com/phpbb2/ They seem to be a much faster growing maxima. These are also high in my rock structure on the other off side of the 250w 10k. These 3 always show new shell growth.

I have 1 baby cultured maxima at 2" and it is also showing great new shell growth. It's fairly high in the rocks too.

As far as lighting for any of the tridacna clams..crocea have got to have halides as well as maximas. T. derasa and squamosa can very easily be kept under vho and or pc. Hippopus clams are also a great clam to keep under less than halides.
