As usual, calamity strikes when I am on vacation each summer...
Got a long distance call in Jamaica from a guy in my office who came in last Monday and said "your pump isn't running, but your lights are on. I think your system has not been circulating since Saturday."
Now that's not good news when you're out of the country and can't trouble shoot it yourself. I was certain that the pump had gone out...
Fortunately, Keith with Aquatic Designs came right over in my absence and discovered that a rusty, cheap power strip had burned out with all the power outtages we had in the storms. He swapped it for another I had and the tank inhabitants seem to be doing just fine. No apparrent losses.
But, let me say this to everyone... learn from my mistake!
Buy the best power strips you can buy, ones with heavy duty housings, surge protection, etc.
Like tires and brakes on a car, power strips are the life-giving, life-protecting part of a reef tank.
