Is there some sort of equation for calculating just how much calcium, alk, and magnesium my reef needs? I test my aquarium and I see that the calcium is a little low so how much do I add? Thanks

When I start up a doser, I start with the minimum dose or bi-daily dose amount(I dose daily so I divide by two) stated on the bottle. Then I test the water a couple of times a week and adjust as necessary. It takes time to get the doses correct for your reef. The dose does change over time as your reef matures.

I use two Bubble Magus Dosers BM-01s. My reef gets two part, magnesium, potassium, acro power, and liquid carbon dosed daily by my dosesrs. I cannot measure acro power or liquid carbon so I just dose the suggested dose on the bottle.

Hope this helps.

Also would like to add; There are reef calculators out there that you can. Just search "reef dose calculator" on google. I do not recommend large swings in your reef chemistry in a short period of time though.

To what magic said above.

On Bulkreefsupply, they have a calculator where you put in how many estimated gallons of water you have, current mag/cal/alk levels and tells you exactly how much to dose.

awesome thank you very much. I would like to go a little more in depth, let's say the recommended level of calcium in your aquarium should be 450, I tested it and it comes out to 400 so I made the raise it 50 parts. is there a way for me to find out exactly how much calcium to bring it up to that? I can figure out an equation that'll give me that I was just wondering if one already out there. one that isn't as complicated as I would make it

Yes, just go to brs and its all there. Asks the amount of water in the tank, what the levels are at and what you want it to be then tells you exactly what you need to dose. Does it all for you.

also, once you have your desired levels comes the tricky time consuming part. so you have your set levels where you would like them. next you should stop dosing your tank for about a good week. each day test your tank water parameters you would like to dose (ex: alk, cal, mag). if your tank is heavily stocked with sps and /or clams, you will notice fluctuation in your levels dropping each day. a trend will start where you might see that your different levels may drop by a certain number. within the wekk, you should get a good average. use that average and go back to one of the helpful calculators and punch in your numbers. it will give you what you need to dose in a day to maintain your desired levels. use that number to program you controller or dosing unit.

if you are using a dosing unit, be very careful on what it really doses. i made the mistake and took for granted that it was always on que.

hope this helps.
