Wow I live in a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment and our electric bill is almost never over 80 bucks. We keep the AC around 76 or so.

but, but.. i live in a less than 500square feet. you know how small that is? when i enter, i have to squeeze thru the couch to get to the bedroom where my queen size bed takes up 95% of it.

Ok, you live in 500sq feet....

First, second or third floor?
Start paying attention to how often your AC is running, and let us know...
What temp do you keep your AC on?

I have a hard time believing that the little amount of lighting you are speaking of would push your bill *that* much higher...

Remember, the elec company has also recently raised elec bills to compensate for the rising cost of energy as well...

yeah, i know small.

....well, i have a 2-bed/2-bath apt. and we also squeeze in to get everywhere, too...really. So how small is MY apt. you ask? ...The apt. is SO SMALL that we literally had to return the new furniture we got when we first moved in because it was too big to fit - really. how cheezy is that? Now, ok, my apt. is 960-something to 1000 sq ft, (depending on which leasing office person you ask....we have 2 porches, and I think that's where they are adding the extra sq. footage....) but anyway, I know it sounds like a lot, like as in double compared to the 500 sq. foot apt...but when you are talking about 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, lvg. dining, kitchen...it's a tight squeeze....well, my little boy's room is about the same size as my lvg. room - and we are cramped from wall to wall, especially with 5 fish tanks in the apt. (actually 7, counting the 2-10 gal. tanks).... and 2 of my tanks are 75 gallons. 8O

...oh, but i digressed, didn't I? So what's MY electric bill? Actually, it was the lowest it's been in like 6 mos. for some reason. The April bill is currently $120, but I don't know why...because it's usually at least $150-160, and usually around $175-185+ in the summer....so I almost pay $200 for a SMALL 2-bedrm. apt.

Sigh..... :(

i use to stay in a 2bed2rest and was pay around 160-190 on elec. i move out of there and into a single bedroom but in the same complex. i had to get rid of a couch because i did not have room for it. the only thing that fits in the living room is my love sit and tv.
what is the cheapest electricity company right now? I thaught it was direct energy, but they have this 5.00 extra charge every month. don't know what its for? they call it a customer charge. i have to pay 5 extra bucks to be their customer.

Place to go to choose.................... I'm really thinking about Gexa anyone know anything about them.?

I have Gexa. Probably another reason why my bill is so much cheaper.

They have a fixed kilowatt hour rate, correct?

Has that changed since you started using them?

Yes, they go by an average of what you paid the first year and the following year the pay is the same every month.

I too have Gexa as my service provider and you are correct, they use one flat rate per kW/h. Unlike reliant where the firts 500 kW/h are so much then the next 2000 kW/h are another rate. My current bill that I just got says the the current per kW/h rate is 8.98cents so about $.09
per kW/h. And when I did all of my searching this company was the cheapest but that was over a year ago.

Anybody thought of going with Green Mountian.
Wind generated electricity. A little more cost but helps the environment.

They were saying that by the time fossil fuels rise in prices yrs from now, the wind generated ones will be cheaper.

Just remember, Green Mountain, like the rest of the wind generated ones, stilll trade electricty.

What they generate is wind powered, however you'll still be fueled by fossil fuel most of the time. THey don't have their own power net, they use the general Texas power network. While it's cool to support such an endeavor, please don't think that the electricty you'll be using will be wind powered. They don't make nearly enough to provide to the vast majority of their clientelle.

If you are looking for another answer, look at solar. We installed some at the old lakehouse, and while you don't use all solar power, it does assist a great deal. However there is alot of maintenance involved..

Just letting y'all know...

The more demand for wind generated, the less demand for the others.
Which reduces the emissions into the environment.
If everyone demanded wind, we would be less dependent on fossil fuel.
Good example:
The price at the pump, that is why some people are buying hybrids now instead of suv.

Solar would be great, except the cost is out the roof. California has a great tax rebate, which makes more it affordable.

Every little thing would do, can become big if enough get involved!!

You people are scaring me with your elec. bills. LOL I have a 2 story and about 1700watts lighting on my 180. And several pumps that get pretty hot as well. My bill went from 80.00 in the summer to the present 125.00 or so when I set this tank up. I keep my a/c set at 72 for cooling and 68 for heating year round. I installed a digital t-stat too. Nice freebie from my old company. If I had a 200.00 bill I might quit the hobby.

As for alternative fuels, we will never get away from oil based fuels in our lifetime. Our country lives on the revenues and the tax's we all pay. The country is too affraid of going broke vs. saving our environment and saving the population money.
