Can anybody advice on the true reef safeness of filefish? Obviously the store owner told me they're 100% reef safe, however a live aquaria search suggests they'll nip at both soft and stony corals.

I think it really depends on the fish. I had one that I never saw nip a coral but, he did like to flip snails and kill them. He also cleaned up aptasia.

I had one and never had a problem with him in a reef. He did just what he was supposed to do. Rid the tank of aiptasia. Never picked on any corals.

So the consensus is that live aquaria is giving them a bad rap? Not saying I'll blame anyone if he does end up being a nipper, but for the most part people's experience seems to disagree with live aquaria?
He's from Fish Bowl in Pearland, he had a couple in stock, however the blue flexible is being held for me until tomorrow as I wanted to do some decent research before I dropped on him
