My true perc laid eggs for the first time today. I understand that most people say don't even try to raise the eggs the first time around because the parents are pretty inexperienced and your hatch rate will be vary low anyway. My question is though is it normal for the parents to eat the eggs almost as fast as they lay them? The female seemed to do a good job laying the eggs but the male didn't seem to do that good of a job doing his deed. I was able to see the vent tubes on both the male and female, so it seems like they are both mature enough.

There is nothing left to even attempt to raise at this point but do you expect next time around to be better or do you think it maybe something on my end causing the parents to eat the eggs?

all my water perams. are 0 except for my nitrates and those are about 15ppm, temp is 81 degrees and salinity is .023.

Perfectly normal. They'll probably eat the first 3 or so batches.

Thanks you vary much. I have read a lot of your post along with mikes post and I do value your response. So with that being said I think I will just keep letting them "practice" until the first batch hatches and then I will get ready and try to raise the following batch.

Make sure you get your rotifer culture going now that way you will be ready for the fry... You can use either one Rotigrow plus and Cloram-x or RG Complete all can be found on Reed Nutrition website. It is expensive but go with Rotigrow plus and the Cloram-x it will last longer then the RG Complete.

Thanks,,, Im going to let them have one more clutch of eggs and then I plan on getting everything I need. I just moved a pot in front of the glass that they laid the eggs on in the hopes that they will lay their next time.

What type of rotifer should I get, the L or S type? and whats the difference
