Do I need a fishing license for the collecting trip? If so, where is a good place to get one and how much are they?

I was doing lots of fishing for years and my though would be you don't need a license unless you are really fish and you will be using rod and reel. You can also purchase temporary license at cheaper price if you need to. I haven't been fishing for the last two years so check with wildlife before you come up with a dicision to buy or not to buy.

Temporary (3-day) Resident Fishing (Type 220): $12< Valid for 3 days in a row for a Texas resident.

Temporary (14-day) Resident Fishing (Type 210): $15< Valid for 14 days in a row for a Texas resident.

The first Saturday in June of each year is the annual Free Fishing Day and no person is required to have a fishing license or stamp endorsements while fishing on that day.

Fishing: Taking or attempting to take aquatic animal life by any means.

above information taken from TPWD...if you plan to engage in trying to catch anything on the trip better get a license and saltwater stamp....a citation can cost an arm and a leg...then you have to pay restitution to the state...

Let me say first that I'm brand new to this site and I love it! I had no idea that there were this many of you guys here in Houston until someone on Reefcentral sent me this way.

I'm sending in my 30 bucks this afternoon. What exactly can one expect to get on these collecting trips?

Thanks.

I'm definately going to try to make it out for one of the trips. Are we welcome to bring kids?

I think you set the record of the fastest some one has ever signed up for the website and paid for a membership.

I live out in Katy so I'm very limited on LFS in the area. Basically, there aren't any that I know of...Petco, but that doesn't count. So, for the last year or so I've been a daily visitor of Reefcentral and Marineaquariums.com to get any information. It wasn't until today when I posed the question of how to find Southdown sand for my upcoming 90gal tank that someone referred me to this site. Had I known then, that I could have been talking with locals, I would have joined a long time ago.

I live out on the West side as well. One nice thing about being able to talk to people locally is they can help you out w/ things that are available locally as well as getting together and helping each other out. It is also a nice way to get some frags cheap aswell as equipment.

I am about 25 minutes from katy down here in Bellville. I usually head up I-10 and then take hwy 6 over to tnt, global, aquatic center (now that i know where it is) and then fish land and fish world.
