So, I have been working out of my companies new office near FM1960 and I-45. We bought the building and kicked out most of the tennants (redoing the whole inside of the building.) One tennant still left is a doctor's office on the first floor. They have a nice sized saltwater fishtank in their waiting room. I popped in to check it out and saw a cool looking red fish. He perched on rocks with his fins. He was red and neat looking. I looked hium up, and he is of course a flame Hawk.

So, what are they like ? Is a 34 galllon with a lot of rock a good place for one ? I knwo that they can eat shrimp, and I do not have any right now anyways. What experiences can yall share ?

I enjoy watching flame hawks. Not having a swim bladder makes for some interesting swimming(?) by them. But I have never had an issue with them bothering anything in my tank. Some say they are semi-aggressive but I have only noted that during feeding time. Otherwise there is always one in my tank.

I have one in my tank, and he always knows when I come up to the tank and he lets me know IT IS FEEDING TIME! I really like how he perches all over the tank, but he does knock a few corals over if they are not secure.

these are definitely cool little fish worth finding, i personally think every tank should have some kind of hawkfish in it, as they do add a different level of fish because of their swimming/perching habits

Mary, I personally put a flame hawk into a tank with a pair of cleaner shrimp and had no problems. I have however, seen issues when you try to add the shrimp to a tank with a flame hawk already residing in it. It is almost as if the hawk thinks it is food time when the shrimp is added; in the first scenario, the resident shrimp were never bothered, so something to keep in mind. But again, that is just a one case basis, ...
