I've got these patches of orange on the rocks, and they seem to move around. They are practically undetectable by day, but once just the actinics are on, the spots just pop florescent orange. They are irregularly shaped and seem to be here one or two or three nights, sometimes longer, and then move to another spot or die off and then more show up somewhere else. I was wondering if maybe they were some type of a florescing bacteria or something. Anybody?

My initialthought was algae but if it is moving I guess not. At work and in one of my roommates tank he had some and it looked cool.

I guess what I mean by movement is that they disappear from one spot and then I see them other places. It's been a few days since I've seen any, and tonight they are all over. One additional thing I noticed tonight is that they are like embedded within or are at the edges of the dark red coraline (if that IS coraline -- I always thought it was at any rate). There is no visible form of motility; they just show up here and there.

And I have to agree, it/they is/are very pretty :)

I have the same type of stuff in patches on my rock. I can't see it during the day, but once the actinics are on by themselves, I can see small patches of a bright orange here and there. I just always assumed that it was some type of algae. I tried to get a picture once, but it didn't really show up.
