I have a 29g tank that I was about to give away. But decided to upgrade the stock light to LED. Just grabbed some aluminum u channel, 12 LED's, a couple of small fans, a Meanwell driver and a 5v wall wart. Everything is snugged into the original fluorescent fixture and the original on/off switch.

Yeah, She already voiced her opinion. I'm afraid I'm gonna have to let this one go.

You know you broke an unwritten law that states you must accompany each LED build with step by step progression photos....

Yeah, I should have. But I did it kinda rushed. Took about an hour but most of that time was drilling and tapping the u-channel. So I didn't take pictures but here is the step-by-step. I will take more detailed pictures later.

1) Remove all of the internals except the power switch using Philips screwdriver and tin snips. Discard everything except the mounting screws for the fixture mounting studs.

2) Cut length of 3/4" aluminum U-channel to fit inside length of fixture.

3) Drill and tap holes for LED modules to be evenly spaced.

4) Drill 1/4" holes in between module locations *** Very important for proper airflow ***

5) Hold in fixture to measure where to add angle aluminum to attach to existing fixture screw studs. Cut angle aluminum to attach, drill to accept mounting screws, and bolt holes to mount U-channel.

6) Cut vent ribs on top to mount 2 35mm 5v fans, one on each side, one side blows in, one side blows out. , then wire tie fans to fixture.

7) Wire power from power switch to LED driver (Meanwell 48P is what I used) and 5v wall wart power supply (found in old power supply drawer, we all have those). Wire fans and Meanwell PWM input to the 5v supply in parallel. This will turn the LEDs and fans on when power switch activated.

8) Affix power supply's in fixture with wire ties and wire tie anchors.

9) Mount LED modules (6 white, 6 RB in this case) in U-channel with nylon 4-40 screws and using thermal grease under modules. Solder in series to Driver leads paying attention to run wires positive to negative, etc. .

10) Bolt and screw in place in the fixture.

That's it. I was also thinking of adding a second row because there is room and it runs cool, but I already get strong enough light for this tank.
