Freshwater Outdoor Pond Advice? (1 Viewer)

Any pond experts in here?

My mother in law has a pond that we dug about a year or two ago. Lately is has been really green. the landscape store has been selling her some additives etc that are supposed to be clearing it up but nothing has really worked. She removed the gravel on the bottom a few months ago bc we thought it was holding algae so she removed it and cleaned everything and didnt put the gravel back in and it turned green, again! Can you run UV on outdoor ponds? is it recommended? I would estimate the pond at 300gal. The pump is on the very bottom of the pic inside the "skimmer" portion. the filter and nets are cleaned out peridocially to remove leaves etc.

Yup! Run a UV filter. My ponds were really green, and within a month of adding a UV sterilizer, they were clear.

yeah uv helps alot. but expect to get a green hair algae bloom in the spring and in the fall. it happens every year it a PITA. you can always use that chem that turns the water blue and kills off the algae. or just get a few plecos lol. once they get full grown i'm sure they will eat plenty. also are you running some sort of wet dry set up? or is it just the pond?

What I used in my pond when I had one was throw in some Barley Balls and leave it in for a few months. It depends on the water volume on how much you use.
