i have a huge branching green with purple tip frog spawn. i have noticed that every once in a while a piece of it's tentacle is floating around the tank. i have checked it thoroughly and nothing is eating or destroying it. is this some form of asexual reproduction? has anyone had this happen to them?

i wouldn't call that spawning. regardless, corals can be irritated even in the absence of things picking at it.

Normally that happens to mine if a tenacle gets caught on something when it is trying to retract to fast, then the peice floats around for about 3 days before it finally desolves, warning, it still has the potential to sting what it touches, so don't let it land on your one polyp of Purple People Eater. :D
