I know most people don't want to put chemicals in their reef tank but mine was getting out of hand. What I did was crush up 6 FW Maracyn tablets, turn off my skimmer and put this powder into my tank. I let it circulate thru the system for 24 hours and then turned the skimmer back on. I waited two days and then did it again. The cyano disappeared and so did most of the algae on the glass. I am not making any guarantees for any of this procedure but just wanted to let you all know of the amazing results that I got. The cyano was gone in six days. This was something I saw on another thread and was to the point of trying anything. It worked!

The bad thing is that Cyano bacteria is in the air we breathe, fishes gills, and live rock so if you don't cut out the source of the problem it will be back. :x - Dr. Ron

Cyano is heavily connected to flow and to a lesser extent to excess nutrients. - Eric Borneman

I am paraphrasing what they said but at least you know it came from people that know what they are talking about and not me. :D
