This light might be too bright for a 20 gallon long tank. This is a 400w MH pendant. I believe that the pendant would be wider than the tank itself, if not longer (pendant is 23" x 18" x 8" - tank is 30" x 12" X 12").

Not only is the pendant too large for the tank, but the lighting will probably bleach out any coral you put under it that is not accustomed to that brightness.

What are you keeping or plan to keep in your 20L?a 20L is usually only 12 inches tall and so you would need corals that can withstand the light from the 400.

Now, Now, play nice people, you never know, there was a guy on Nano-reef, that put a 400W SE on a 2.5 gal, or should I say above the 2.5 gal.

A good bit above it.

Leaffish, I would say if you are going to go MH, put a 250W DE above it, 12" above the water line, and the only reason I am saying a 250W instead of the 150W is that its easier to sale or move the light to a different tank, compared to the 150W. My 150W DE makes my 29gal shine bright.

Of course if you wanted to get the 250W and trade it for my 150W well we might talk about it.

Now with the amount of flow in my tank, and the 150W over it, I have to top off between .8 and 1.5 gals of water a day. Thats in a 29 gal. You have to stay on top of the top off.

I have read some peoples post on nanoreef.com and some have some pretty bright lights on there small nanos. I might still get it. Like Narkon said i can trade for a smaller light later on if I wanted.

You could do Tridacnas with a setup like that - if you could keep it stable enough. That'd be way cool.

The stable part is the key.

They guy that had the 400W over his 2.5, well it was 6 foot above it, and it also lit the whole room, he had no other light in the room.

I would go with the 250, not the 400.
