Depends on who you ask. Some people hate these things and go to war trying to rid the tank of them. I have plenty of them in my tank. They feed on particulate in the water column. They extend those webs out and it WILL stick to the coral, but doesn't seem to sting it.
there's a few critters that cast out webs. spaghetti worms do it, but it's not so much a web as it is actual tentacles. they do not harm corals or other livestock. vermitid snails on the other hand, will sting other corals. they can get large and will cast out a white net to capture food and sting anything close to it.
agreed with llama... I've never had an issue with them other than maybe a bit of a nuisance when they're in large populations. I've never noticed them sting anything.
