Holy cow... I love my salt tank...... I just had no idea the amount of money it takes just to get it the way you "think" you want it... only to figure out you are doing all wrong and have to re-buy stuff....
It's not just the major parts... it stuff like PVC pipe and glue and fittings and elbows and back and forth to the store for stuff you forgot and they don't have it so you have to go to another store.... and then you mess it up and have to re-do it one more time.... I install my ro unit today and messed up the sink plumbing and had to buy new copper tubing to fix the sink... only to have it leak.... I built a canopy today and thought my messurements were correct... only to find out my light was 47.5 and I built the canopy 47" ... trying to rig up a refugium and trying to rig something up with a trash can to hold live rock and cheato algee only to see that the trash can is too flimsy and my idea really sucks....I hope itget easier...... My hat if off to you guys running mega tanks..... this 75 gallon is eating my lunch... tell me it levels out somewhere....

haha I experienced the same thing when setting up my 75 gallon and getting all the plumbing redone and everything. but yes it does get easier. once you have all the equipment set up things will work but obviously there will be hiccups from time to time and something will go wrong. after having my 75 set up for about 4 months I am in a "grow out" period where I am just letting everything do its job, all I am doing is topping off and occasionly wiping the algae off the glass. my $.02

yes nola is right, it does gets easier. I remember when i set up my first 29gal to a 180fowlr and a 75g reef, i had so much problems with the leaks and pipes and all the nick nacks. Then i set up a 475reef with no problems at all since i learn from my past mistakes. You will learn as time goes by and things will pick up and become much easier. Good luck 2 u

If it didn't get easier do you think we would all be here???
It's like childbirth....God gives you amnesia or we would all be single children with no siblings.

Congrats! On your new baby!

I just went through the same experience you have been going through. Weeks and weeks of back and forth to Lowes only to find out you used the wrong type of plumbing and have to replumb your closed loop. I know how you feel. Thank God that I have finaly got everything up and running the way I want it. I sware my wife is going to kill me when she finds out how much I really spent. Hopefully she understands. Any way, Good luck and hang in there. Marsh is a wonderful resource and has a ton of good guys that would drop everything to help you out.

I was just reading some posts and was wondering the same thing as Chuck and when I read this from goby1kanobi I just about fell out of my chair laughing.....so true!

We have been wondering of late if we were going to make it with this endeavor.....we jumped into fish way to fast and to many....well we lost all and a chunk of change...just lost our Ritteri which we found out way to late that they are hard to keep much less in a new tank..

So we have taken a step backwards and slowed down.....we have been just been getting pieces of coral here and there and just added 2 clowns and they seem to be doing ok....

I need to update my pics in the link below as there is nothing new on there and when everything died we re-arranged the rock....

Anyway goby1kanobi thanks for the laugh and for the encouragement I received reading these posts!

You gotta keep the humor.....it takes less energy to be positive than to be negative. Being negative is far too energy consuming.
But, I recently acquired a great 30 gallon white plastic barrel for my R/O water.
Long story short...read a little like cope's original post .
That storage tank was the hardest thing I've ever had to put together for this hobby.
That 10.00 dollar barrel after all the hardware, trips to Home Depot-forget Lowe's for plumbing was a nightmare.
Still worth it though.........

Been doing this 8 months myself and have set up a 29 and 120 with my girlfriend and we still have some problems but the enjoyement far outweighs the headaches. You look back and say what was i thinking....or you get what u pay for(most of the time). One thing leads to another....like the hair algae problem we got the foxface for (he's tearing it up) now the water is yellow so have to add carbon and phosphates are high..... Ups definately outweigh the downs when u are sitting on the futon watching em all swim around next to the one u love.
