Anyone use these? I see some people rave about them like its the ne big thing and hen nothing. Just wanted some personal experiences and whats your opinion vs the chemical tests.

I use the phosphate one and it's decent. I like the digital readout vs the color cards. I can't say its super accurate but it will get you in the ballpark. If they made one for nitrates, I would definitely get it too.

Ive heard theyre supposedly making one for nitrates and as well as magnesium. From my understanding its cheaper to get these vs the chemicals because you dont have to buy a whole kit but only the drops for the checker or aomething like thst.

I have the alk, phos and calcium. Alk is spot on, phos is really accurate and the calcium needs 0 TDS water or you will get a false reading, otherwise its within 5 ppm, which is by far the most accurate non labgrade tester you can get.

I love the Alk and Phos. Use them 2-3 times a week. I have the calcium and don't like it much. I went back to my trusty Elos test kit for calcium. I never could get the Hanna calcium to read right.

I like the HI-713 (phosphate checker), I also have the HI-736 (ultra low range phosphorus checker) but had too many issues getting consistent readings so quit using it.

I also have the HI-755 Alkalinity checker but prefer Salifert for Alk, Ca, Mg. I can't stand the Red Sea test kits...

The best one they make is the Alk. It's super consistent test to test and it is consistent with other test kits.
Liquid alk tests are super easy and quick so its not like you're going to save any time with the Hanna, but I like seeing a number. And the reagent refills aren't expensive.

The Phosphate (HI 736) is the only other one I would get, and even so, I don't fully trust it. It's a PITA. I have never tried the 713.
You have to be REALLY precise and consistent with the way you carry out the test in order to get consistent results, and even then I question it's accuracy. I can run the test 3x in a row and I can guarantee you I will get 3 different results. Something like .03, .08, .05.
It's biggest flaw IMHO is the powdered reagent. I use a mini funnel (thanks to Cat for that tip) to get the powder into the test tube, but even then it's hard to get every last bit in there.
Then getting the powder to dissolve isn't exactly easy, and you are on a time limit.
And something else I've found out, the test tubes can have very minor imperfections and differences in the glass. And i'm not talking about test tube to test tube but within each individual one! So make sure that you put it in the tester in the exact same position EVERY time. I use the "10ml" text on it as a guide and face that to the front of the tester.
I really wish they would redesign this one to use a liquid reagent.
