I have been reading about raising my magnesium levels in my tank. They have been chronically low. For a couple of years. I don't know how they got so low, and they seem to really resist my efforts at raising them.
I have used Kent Tech-M to raise it some, but it takes a lot ! I have been reading Randy Holmes Farley's excellent articles on water chemistry and he mentions using Magesium Chloride (driveway de-icer) rather than Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salts.) So... has anyone found driveway de-icer in Houston... ever ? I am going snow skiing in Salt Lake in a few weeks, so I may hit the home depot there, but I dunno if they will let me bring it back on a plane, should, I'd think.
I did find out that because pure magnesium is pretty reactive, its always found as a compound and when found in solid form, its usually no more than 8% Mg. His article also states that a typical 100 gal aq has about two pounds of magnesium in it. That's what my numbers were showing too, but I couldn't believe it.
I did order a 64 oz bottle of Magnesium supplement online, but I'd like to score some dry mg, as I can get a better handle on how much I am adding.
