I'm abroad in the UK for this next month (won't be home until August) and I'm going to check in every now and then. We're in Canterbury (staying RIGHT NEXT to the cathedral) and so far driving (yeah, I drove) has been the second biggest problem. The first biggest? Parking. Since no one drives (tell that to the hour-and-a-half traffic jam on the A25 coming from Gatwick) there is almost NO parking. We had to drive around for about an hour through streets laid out by a drunken cow, and I managed NOT to total the car....

We've been here two days (flew in yesterday) and so far I have come up with this:

"England is where God test markets rain"

Drying out......

Matt,

I lived for alomost 2 years in Stoke-on-Trent (Midlands) and traveled all over the UK. Take time to get out of the London traffic and go see the small towns. Some of our favorite places were really small towns like Cheddar, the Lake District, Wales, etc.

My wife would tell you to stick to the A roads. The B roads were laid out by blind, druken cows that were in a really bad mood.....

My favorite was when we first went there, I got upgraded from an automatic to a manual transmission. What a great way to learn to drive..

Ha! Thanks Bill. We are actually all over the country, London comes at the end of the visit for us. We're in Nettleston (new Castle Combe) for these few days, then we're off to Manchester tomorrow for a show, then on to Lumley Castle for a few days (yes, we're staying in a CASTLE).....

Just today I had the difference between Ms As and Bs explained to me. Of course, my personal hatred is the not-quite-a-B-road suicidally small one lane but with two way traffic roads with blind corners at 60 mph.... Now THAT's fun!

We went through Manchester many times because we would fly from there to Newark to Houston quite often. We occasionally went there just to go through the shops.

My all time favorite was going to Scotland. My whole family loved Edinburgh and we went there for any and every occasion that we could invent.

My all time favorite was the double or triple round abouts that looked like someone threw spaghetti at the wall and then built the road in that pattern. My wife loathed B roads but I thought some were fun. Of course we had been there for a year and a half at that point.
