With the mars lights on a 60" tank, I would use 4 fixtures. Also, keep your t5s for supplementation. You can't go wrong with that combo.

do you think I could get by with 3 til after Christmas then add one more? And do you have any advice how to hang leds and t5 so they don't block light from one another but still not be a eye sore.

thank you for your response

Depends on the spectrum of the lights. But if you have t5 also 3 Mars should be enough for the time being IMO. But it all depends where you place you're sps . Im pretty new to this hobby myself. Wanted to give my 2 cents

^ what he said. Strategic placement of the corals under the lights will let you get by.

Do you have any pics, might help us give suggestions on mounting both T5's and LEDs.

Sorry I don't have any pics at this time. I think I might go ahead and get 4 mars and be done with it. My tank has two black cross braces and now im trying to decide how to place 4 over the tank so the light isn't blocked by the braces. I also want to ask what does it cost and how do I go about becoming a member and not just a guest.

Oh and the tank is open top dual over flow if this helps im think about building a canopy to hide everything but I don't want to cause a temp problem

The center races shouldn't cause much problem. The higher the lights are away from them, the better as far as shadows. I would not run metal halides over them though. As far as heat, I have metal halides in a canopy. With a fan blowing across the water, heat isnt a problem.
